Jeremy Allen White & Jude Law Eyed To Star In ‘Devil In The White City’ Series As Hulu Passes On Project
Mar 7, 2023
It’s been a very rocky development for the limited series, “Devil in the White City.” The series has been something of a passion project for Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio, dating back to when it was being developed as a feature film. Then, recently, it was announced that Keanu Reeves would star with Todd Field directing. However, both of those guys eventually left, leaving the project in jeopardy. Now, it appears the future of the project is even more in question as the streaming service set to release the series has officially passed.

According to THR, Hulu has passed on “Devil in the White City,” after years of development. It’s also been reported that the producers were ready to move on from Keanu Reeves and Todd Field and were eying Jeremy Allen White and Jude Law to star with Matt Ross possibly directing. However, with Hulu now passing on the show, it’s unclear if those collaborators will stick around as the producers shop the project to other distributors.
“Devil in the White City” is based on the famous book by author Erik Larson and tells the true story of the crazy events that surrounded the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago. The series follows Daniel H. Burnham, a visionary architect who is trying to make his mark on the world at the massive event, while not far by H.H. Holmes, the first modern serial killer, is murdering folks at his infamous “Murder Castle.”
Jeremy Allen White is probably best known for his work in the new series “The Bear.” Previously, he was a standout member of the cast of “Shameless.” Jude Law is, well, Jude Law. Recently, he’s been seen in the series “The Third Day” and the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise.
Again, it’s unclear what the future of the “Devil in the White City” adaptation will be. With Hulu passing on the project, it’s currently without a home. That said, there are enough stars attached that perhaps another streamer (like the spend-happy Apple TV+ or Prime Video) can swoop in and save this series. Or, just maybe, this is one of those projects that will remain in limbo forever and be the stuff of legends. We’ll just have to wait and see.
