As seen in the teaser for Season 4, “Barry” picks up after the surprising events of Season 3. Now, we have the main character beginning the season in prison and his story coming to an end. And according to star, writer, co-creator, and director, Bill Hader, this is exactly where the story was headed and will be a fitting end for the series.
“It was very much in the writing and the storytelling. I mean, a lot of people after last season were like, ‘Why are you doing another season? What happens in Season 4 is structurally radical in some ways, but it made sense for what I think the characters needed to go through, and what I think the whole show is always kind of headed towards.”

As mentioned, “Barry” is one of HBO’s most acclaimed series of the past five years. The first three seasons have earned 9 Primetime Emmy wins and a ton more nominations. Much of the acclaim rests at the feet of Hader, who not only wrote and stars in Season 4, but also steps up to direct each of the episodes.
The final season of “Barry” debuts on HBO on April 16. You can watch the teaser below.
