Ares’ Star’s 15% Rotten Tomatoes Superhero Movie Finds New Streaming Home
Aug 31, 2025
In the past few years, the superhero genre has seen a slump, call it superhero fatigue, dilution of franchises, or simply waning interest. But while some films are saved on the small screen thanks to streaming numbers or by word of mouth, like Blue Beetle, while others get the sheer wrath of fans, like The Flash. Among the latter is Jared Leto-led Morbius, which was a part of Sony’s now-defunct franchise of Spider-Man-based characters, and has now found a new home. Morbius is heading to Prime Video starting in September. The movie, directed by Daniel Espinosa, follows Doctor Morbius (Leto), who is dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and is determined to save others from the same fate. He makes a desperate medical gamble, which at first seems to be a radical success, but soon the darkness inside of him is unleashed. While the origin story is very close to the source material and the film stars Leto and Matt Smith, the shoddy pacing, multiple characters, numerous subplots, and a very confusing post-credits scene could not be overlooked by fans. The film was trolled by many on the internet, given that Sony was unable to produce any decent superhero films despite having a big sandbox. Morbius got a 15% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, but interestingly, the audience score sits as high as 71%. But none of it translated at the box office as the movie earned $167.5 million worldwide. Nonetheless, maybe in time we can look back at the movie as the campy affair it turned out to be. At least Matt Smith seemed to be having fun.
Jared Leto Will Next Star in ‘Tron: Ares’
Leto is set for another extravaganza with Tron: Ares, which follows a highly sophisticated program, Ares (Leto), who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission marking humankind’s first encounter with sentient A.I. beings. While the sci-fi premise sounds exciting, director Joachim Rønning previously divulged that the story will go in a more emotional direction. “Emotions will always be something that I strive for, and this film will be more emotional, something I don’t think the franchise has had as much in previous Tron movies,” he said. “Both of them are, in many ways, masterpieces, but what I’m trying to do is create an emotional experience so that’s always going to be front and center. I think that that’s something that I managed to do with this film.” Morbius will drop on Prime Video on September 1. Tron: Ares debuts in theaters on October 10.
