Bryan Cranston Secures His Seventh Emmy Win
Sep 10, 2025
Step aside, Walter White! Bryan Cranston took home the win for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as movie exec Griffin Mill in AppleTV+’s hit comedy The Studio at the 2025 Creative Arts Emmys on Sept. 6. In a surprising turn of events, he was up against Jon Bernthal from The Bear and four other actors from The Studio in the category, including Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese, Anthony Mackie, and Dave Franco. The breakout satire series that takes a frank and often hilarious peek into the inner workings of the movie industry earned a whopping 23 nominations in total this year, tying with HBO Max’s The White Lotus. He was unable to attend, so Game of Thrones alum Gwendoline Christie accepted the prestigious award on his behalf. This was Bryan Cranston’s 16th Emmy nomination and his seventh win over the course of his booming career. He previously won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series four times for bringing the complex drug lord Walter White — also known as Heisenberg — to life during his five-year run on AMC’s Breaking Bad. The show itself also won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series in 2013 and in 2014. Earlier this year, while attending the Television Academy’s Televerse festival, Cranston reminisced about researching and forming Mill’s character while working on The Studio:
“In shooting this show, we were free to do every single inappropriate thing we ever thought of. That’s the fun. We get to let you know the dark sides of our character, or their inappropriate sides. It was a blast.”

Cranston’s latest award-winning performance comes ahead of the premiere of the revival of his classic comedy Malcolm in the Middle. Following in the footsteps of other reboots of sitcoms that aired in the ’80s, ’90s and the early 2000s, such as Bel-Air, Fuller House and The Connors, the four-episode limited miniseries will revisit Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) and his family now that the kids are all grown up and have built lives of their own. According to a synopsis on IMDb, shenanigans ensue as Malcolm and his daughter are “drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Maczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.” Throughout his stint on Malcolm in the Middle, Cranston was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2002, 2003, and 2006 for playing the family’s patriarch, Hal, but he never quite snagged the win. Along with Cranston, Muniz, and Maczmarek, former original cast members Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield are also set to reprise their respective roles as Francis and Reese. Meanwhile, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark will step into the role of Dewey for the first time, as Erik Per Sullivan has left his acting career to pursue a master’s degree at Harvard. Other stars include Vaughan Murrae, Anthony Timpano and Kiana Madeira. Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair is set to premiere on Disney+ in December 2025.
