Netflix’s Hit Action Thriller Series Loses Key Cast Member Ahead of Season 3
Sep 18, 2025
As fans anxiously await the next season of Netflix’s hit action thriller The Night Agent, it’s been revealed that a key member of the series will not return for the third season. While Gabriel Basso is set to return once again as the titular operative, he will be without a close ally that has appeared in both seasons thus far. During an interview with Deadline, The Night Agent star Luciane Buchanan confirmed that she will not reprise her role as Rose Larkin in Season 3. She revealed that the writers wanted to focus on Peter’s journey after the finale, which now leaves Rose out of the picture. That said, Buchanan did not rule out a potential return, saying, “it’s not a goodbye forever.” As a co-lead, it’s a bit surprising she won’t appear in any capacity, but it seems the creative team was keen on ushering in a new chapter for The Night Agent.
“As much as that show has been so amazing, especially for my career — being a lead on a U.S. show from little New Zealand was such a whirlwind — the writers decided that they wanted to follow Peter and his journey based on what happened at the end of Season 2. And so, we don’t get to see what happens to Rose, but I think it’s a really exciting time for the show, and who knows, it’s not a goodbye forever.”
Buchanan went on to say that the show’s producers contacted her soon after the release of Season 2 to let her know of the decision. As she noted, they did not want to include her unless there was a meaningful role to play, which was not going to be the case. With The Night Agent Season 3 introducing new characters in a globe-trotting adventure, Rose Larkin will have to be sidelined for the meantime.
“They called me not so long after Season 2, and they were like, we’ve been trying to find a way to bring her in, but we want to do her character justice and not make her a sub-character. I totally respected that decision and agreed. I was like, if it makes sense to a story, I’ll do that. If it doesn’t, let’s not force that.
‘The Night Agent’ Star Leads Jason Momoa’s Epic New Apple Series
Netflix
The Night Agent star Luciane Buchanan might be moving on from the Netflix thriller, but she can be seen in one of the best action series of the year. She stars in Apple TV’s Chief of War alongside Jason Momoa, who co-created the Hawaiian-centric historical drama. In it, she plays Ka‘ahumanu, the queen consort of King Kamehameha, both of whom are based on real-life figures. Buchanan has a key role to play in the first season, which ends later this week with the ninth and final episode. However, the actress hopes the series lives on to tell more stories from the rich history of the Hawaiian Kingdom. In the same interview with Deadline, Buchanan expressed her desire to star in more seasons of Chief of War. While her role on The Night Agent hits an indefinite pause, there is still a lot more to explore with her character in the Apple TV+ series, as well as the rest of the show’s ensemble. As of this writing, the streamer has yet to determine the show’s fate, but Buchanan is spot-on about the potential Chief of War holds.
“I love playing this character so much; there’s so much to be explored. I think anyone who watched the show and has dug into the history will know that there are many, many more battles and betrayal and different things that happen in order for Kamehameha to unite these kingdoms. So there’s definitely more to be explored, and I am crossing my fingers. But at this point, I have no idea what’s going to happen.”
