Jessica Jones Fans Shouldn’t Expect One Thing from Krysten Ritter’s ‘Daredevil’ Return
Oct 14, 2025
Krysten Ritter is returning as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, but while the Man Without Fear has upgraded his costume many times, don’t expect Jessica Jones to change her appearance. Jessica Jones is best known for rocking her black leather jacket and scarf combo, but comic fans know she has also briefly worn a traditional superhero costume, first as crime-fighter Jewel and later as part of the New Avengers. While the MCU loves doing costume changes and putting heroes in their traditional costumes, Jessica Jones seemingly won’t be one of them. Speaking with Comic Book at New York Comic-Con, Ritter talked about her return as Jessica Jones to the MCU. The star is not opposed to Jessica Jones wearing the character’s more traditional Jewel costume, but she is okay with the character’s current look. “I think Jessica looks about as cool as you can possibly look. I love the way she looks, but if, who knows, I’d be open to anything,” said Ritter.
Jessica Jones Costume History
Netflix
Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos, Jessica Jones debuted in Alias #1 in 2001 and was retroactively established as a former classmate of Peter Parker’s from The Amazing Spider-Man #4 who would later become a short-lived superhero named Jewel before becoming a private investigator. Jessica Jones’ white-and-blue Jewel jumpsuit was referenced in Season 1 during a flashback as a potential costume for her adopted sister, Trish Walker. The Marvel Netflix series often paid homage to the characters’ original costumes, with Trish Walker briefly trying on her Hellcat costume before trashing it and Luke Cage wearing his signature open yellow shirt and silver crown when he broke out of prison in his flashback. Jessica Jones’ character is not one for wearing superhero costumes, and The Defenders saw her poking fun at Daredevil for being the only one in the group to wear one. It would feel out of place for Jessica Jones to suddenly don a superhero costume, or even join the Avengers. Her jacket is already an iconic look and not one that needs to change, while she is best suited for street-level stories rather than massive multiversal action. However, it’s likely not Jessica Jones’ classic costume that most fans are curious about bringing to live-action, but rather her relationship with Luke Cage. Jessica Jones Season 1 and The Defenders built up the romantic relationship between the two heroes, one that in the comics ultimately results in a marriage and a baby girl named Danielle Cage. Many fans were hoping Mike Colter would be announced to be returning as Luke Cage for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 at New York Comic-Con, but that did not happen. It is still in the cards for Colter’s Luke Cage, and Marvel Television might be saving that reveal. At New York Comic-Con, Ritter alluded that she can’t say what Jessica Jones has been up to since the audience last saw her, possibly hinting at a significant story reveal for her and Luke Cage.
