STRANGER THINGS Spinoff Is Moving Forward as The Duffer Bros. Offer Big Update — GeekTyrant

Dec 4, 2025

The world of Stranger Things is about to expand and the creators are talking about where things stand with the mysterious spinoff. Fans have been wondering what the project will actually be and now we have a solid update straight from Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer. If you have been waiting to hear how the project is shaping up, this is the clearest picture yet.Speaking with Deadline, the Duffers confirmed that the new Stranger Things spinoff has the green light and is actively moving ahead at Netflix. Matt explained, “We are moving forward with it. Netflix, they finally know what it is.”Matt also revealed that Finn Wolfhard once hit the nail on the head when guessing the concept. He said, “Finn guessed what it was. So he was the only one who knew.” Ross followed up by pointing out that Wolfhard might remember it differently now, joking, “Last time he brought it up, I was like, ‘That’s not what it is.’”The brothers said this spinoff has actually been in development since Stranger Things Season 4 back in 2022. Matt added, “Everybody at Netflix knows. They’re very excited behind it there,” noting that a creative team is already in place, though he cannot reveal who is involved just yet. He also said, “We’re trying to get it to go pretty quickly.”Wolfhard had previously suggested that the series might feel similar to Twin Peaks and follow an anthology structure tied to the mythology of the Upside Down, but Matt clarified that this guess did not match their real plan. The Duffers first teased in October that the spinoff would not follow existing characters or continue the same storylines. They made it clear this next show will start from the ground up. Matt explained: “The spinoff idea is something that Ross and I came up with that we’re extremely excited about. It’s quite different, though, than Stranger Things.”They reiterated that it will introduce “a clean slate” and “new characters,” and it will stand on its own while still feeling like something from their creative DNA.Even as they prepare for the final chapter of the main series and map out their future at Paramount starting in 2026, the Duffers remain deeply connected to Netflix. They continue to executive produce new projects for the streamer including The Boroughs and Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen.Ross also confirmed that the era hopping will continue in unexpected ways, saying, “Whatever we do next… it’s not going to be set in the ’80s.” He added that although their work will evolve, “We’ll shake it up a little bit.”The Duffer brothers are fully committed to expanding the Stranger Things universe with something fresh, surprising, and distinct from the original hit. A new team is assembled, Netflix is all in, and the creators are eager to get rolling fast.
