‘The Pitt’ Star Addresses Future After Netflix-Warner Bros. Merger
Jan 11, 2026
After the Season 2 premiere, and the early third season renewal from HBO Max, The Pitt star Noah Wyle addressed the future of the medical drama after Netflix’s acquisition of Warner Bros. HBO Max is under the WBD label, meaning the show could be affected by the strategic decisions that will surely be made once the company merges with Netflix. But is it clever of Netflix to change anything about one of the most successful series in the current television landscape? Although the show is very successful, Wyle understands that change is inevitable. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the Emmy winner talked about the merger that is on everyone’s mind today, saying, “I have no idea what the ripple effect is going to be. I don’t know that anybody does really.”
“It’s going to be a long transition process. It’s not going to happen overnight. I’m pretty sure that whoever is in charge will view The Pitt as a crown jewel worth maintaining, I hope. But we’re seeing seismic shifts in our industry. We’re seeing huge pillars fall. Giant sequoias are dropping around us in ways that we never thought we’d ever see, and that’s scary.
“And if you’re a sentimentalist or a historian, or a history buff, like I am, it’s kind of sad, but change is inevitable, and I believe that this consolidation is going to create a whole other industry as a result that’s going to be probably more grassroots, probably more democratically run, and it’ll find its own distribution system and its own way of supporting itself, and probably look a lot more like the early movie business back when it was invented, which would be exciting, interesting.”
Executive producer John Wells also talked about the merger, and whether it could affect the series: “We make shows, and we’re hopeful that we will continue to be able to have whatever the distribution system is and that there will be people who want to make those shows…I’ve been at Warners a long time. This will be the fifth sale that I will have been around for, and we’re still making shows. We’ve been making shows the whole time. So the assumption is, as long as they let us make them, we’ll keep making them.” Wells added:
“But it’s a scary time in the businesses as a whole. Many, many people out of work and lot of uncertainty, and so, for all the people that we work with, we understand that everyone’s concerned. Whether this is the right merger or not is far beyond me to say but something was going to happen because of what’s happened with streaming.”

The following has spoilers for The Pitt Season 2.Last night, The Pitt Season 2 premiered on HBO Max, and from the very start, it seems that things at the ER of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center haven’t changed. Robby arrives on his last day before going on a sabbatical, and is forced to pass the torch to Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi – an attending physician with apparently different views of how to manage the ER. Santos, Whitaker, Mel, and Javadi seem to have learned a lot from their experience at the hospital. Dana Evans is still the very caring charge nurse, and Mohan is as clever as ever. Langdon is also back after spending time in rehab, but Robby is surprised that he returned during his shift. There is still some tension between them.
Oh yes, and someone abandons a baby in the ER. When taking care of the newborn, Dr. Al-Hashimi has a surprising reaction, teasing that this is not just an ordinary day at the most chaotic ER on modern television. There’s something brewing.
