Netflix & Jake Gyllenhaal Re-Teaming After 5 Years With New Action Thriller

Jake Gyllenhaal has a new streaming project in the works. Netflix and Jake Gyllenhaal are teaming up for the first time in five years with a new action thriller original movie. Gyllenhaal’s movies and TV shows on streaming have been triumphant in recent years. From his remake of Road House for Prime Video, to his TV rendition of Presumed Innocent for Apple TV, the actor has headed many successful ventures. Now, Deadline reports that Gyllenhaal will be teaming up with Netflix for a new action thriller movie, titled Kill Switch. Created by Harrison Query (Heads of State), the exact details of the film are being kept under wraps. However, it’s been described as pulling from the likes of Sicario and Collateral, according to the official report on its development. Gyllenhaal will star in the film, producing alongside Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris for 6th & Idaho, alongside Josh McLauglin from Nine Stories and Scott Glassgold from 12:01 Films. This will be Gyllenhaal’s first streaming original project with Netflix in five years, having previously starred in the well-received crime thriller The Guilty.

Query, who is also serving as executive producer for the movie, is no stranger to building successful streaming productions. His latest movie, Heads of State, starring John Cena and Idris Elba, became the fourth most-watched movie on Prime Video when it debuted in July 2025. Now, he has a multitude of projects in the works with various streaming services. Kill Switch is just one of two movies Query and Gyllenhaal are working on together: the pair are also teaming up for Code Black, sold to Amazon MGM. Query’s other Netflix original movies in the works include the TV show Trigger Point, produced by A24 and starring Joel Edgerton, and The Operator, a new streaming movie starring Mark Wahlberg.

Although not much is known about Kill Switch, it makes for another action movie on Gyllenhaal’s plate. This includes the upcoming Road House 2, which is currently filming for Prime Video. His other major streaming project coming soon is Presumed Innocent season 2, which he’ll be serving as a producer on but not starring in. Since there’s nothing yet known about Kill Switch this early in its development, the Netflix project will likely remain wrapped in mystery until closer to when production begins. It’s unclear how much a priority it is compared to Query’s other projects. However, its announcement means it’s probably closer to arriving than anticipated.
