Prime Video’s Masterpiece Fantasy Series ‘The Legend of Vox Machina’ Is the Best Fantasy Show on Streaming
Feb 21, 2026
The best fantasy series on Prime Video is the perfect weekend binge-watch. What’s more, it keeps getting better and better. Prime Video is home to some gigantic fantasy franchises, like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and The Wheel of Time. But, while fans of J.R.R. Tolkien and Robert Jordan’s respective fantasy worlds were divided by the live-action adaptations, another fantasy fandom has been treated to amazing season after amazing season. If you’re a fan of the fantasy genre, then you’ve likely dipped your toes into the world of Dungeons & Dragons. But Prime Video gave even the most casual of players a chance to experience a campaign with The Legend of Vox Machina. The three-season high fantasy series will be instantly familiar to Dungeons & Dragons fans. The story is based on the first campaign by the D&D live-streaming group, Critical Role. The show contains all the popular trappings of the fantasy genre, including various races, realms, magical powers, evil creatures, and more, but with that off-kilter D&D sensibility. The series follows Vox Machina, a wannabe crew of adventurers who are tasked with saving the world from an evil lord and a conclave of dragons. It sounds generic, but anyone who has played the tabletop game knows how quickly things can go off the rails. The show embraced the “anything goes” approach from its very first episode. Fans of the original campaign quickly recognized their favorite moments and knew what they were in for. But, for casual viewers, The Legend of Vox Machina is one of the most unpredictable fantasy shows in years. Every heroic moment is balanced with at least 10 humbling moments where the players would have failed rolls, resulting in their character’s decisions backfiring horribly. As the show goes on, and viewers get more used to the characters’ shenanigans, it pushes the envelope even further, delving into darker storytelling that still manages to maintain its chaotic core. Whether you’re a hardcore fan of the fantasy genre or a newcomer who doesn’t know their Hobbit from their hermit, you need to give The Legend of Vox Machina a try.
The Critical Role Universe Is Still Expanding
Three seasons of The Legend of Vox Machina have been released, meaning the show is already poised to outlast The Wheel of Time. But if you find yourself binge-watching all of The Legend of Vox Machina in a single weekend and are craving more, then Prime Video already has you covered. Vox Machina is just the first campaign that Critical Role has run, and the rest are also being adapted for the small screen. In fact, the second campaign, The Mighty Nein, already has an animated series. Season 1 was released in 2025, and it was another resounding success for the streamer. The series was also another big hit with fantasy fans, earning a flawless 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating and a 90% user score. Unsurprisingly, The Mighty Nein has been renewed for a second season.

The Critical Role universe might be expanding, but the end is in sight for The Legend of Vox Machina. The show that started as a Kickstarter fundraiser has sprawled into an epic 5-season global phenomenon. Season 4 is currently in the works, but Prime Video has the end planned out for the show. The Legend of Vox Machina will end with its fifth season.
