As Matt Reeves and Warner Bros. continue assembling the final major pieces for The Batman: Part II, a report claims that Daniel Craig has been offered a key villain role in the upcoming sequel. Production is still expected to kick off next month if everything stays on track, and while most of the big roles are locked in, one crucial character remains uncast, Christopher Dent, the troubled father of Harvey Dent.Christopher Dent is believed to be a central antagonist in the story. The role was reportedly offered to Brad Pitt before Sebastian Stan landed the part of Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face. Since then, Reeves has apparently shifted gears and is looking for a slightly older actor to play Dent Sr. There were whispers that Stellan Skarsgård passed on the role, and now, according to GFR, Craig has been offered the part. If he turns it down, Liam Neeson is said to be next in line.This news came from GFR, the same source who previously reported that Scarlett Johansson had been offered a role in the movie before the trades confirmed it. Johansson is now believed to be playing Gilda Dent, Harvey’s wife.There are also reports that the sequel may introduce another male villain into the mix, which would make at least three major antagonistic forces if you count Harvey’s eventual transformation. If that’s accurate, the identity of that character is still under wraps.Reeves has been understandably protective about story details. He previously teased that the villain in the sequel is someone who has “never really been done in a movie before.” It’s possible he was referring to Johansson’s character when he said that, but we won’t know for sure until more details surface.Reeves recently opened up about why secrecy is such a big deal for him on this project, saying:“Because of what the first movie was and what [The Batman: Part 2] is, which is so much a detective story, the idea of trying to protect the secrets of the movie is super important because it’s a mystery. “That would be an extra level of heartbreak if that part of it started getting out. You wanna keep the surprise so the fans… can have the fun experience that I always love going to the movies, which was to go and be surprised,”Screenwriter Mattson also shared an encouraging update when a fan asked about the sequel on social media:”We worked exceptionally hard to tell a story worthy of the character. Something that feels new and dangerous. The bar couldn’t be higher. Looking forward to people seeing it and being able to talk about it at length. We did our actual, literal, pushed beyond the limit best.”The Batman: Part II is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Robert Pattinson is returning as Bruce Wayne alongside Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin. Barry Keoghan may also return as The Joker, though that hasn’t been officially confirmed. Zoë Kravitz isn’t expected to reprise her role as Selina Kyle.If Craig does step into Gotham’s shadows as Christopher Dent, it would be a great move. After redefining James Bond for a generation, seeing him jump into Reeves’ grounded, noir-inspired Batman universe would be pretty awesome.
