‘Bob’s Burgers’ Star Eugene Mirman Gives Health Update After Fiery Car Crash
Apr 5, 2026
The Simpsons has rightfully earned its legacy as the first family in animation, but in the 15 years since Bob’s Burgers debuted, the series’ Belcher family has given Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie a run for their money. The series has earned a passionate following over the years, as well as its own big-screen outing, cementing its place in pop culture. Key to the series’ success are the actors behind the family, with the news earlier this week that Eugene Mirman, voice of Gene Belcher, had been pulled from a fiery car crash igniting worry. Luckily, news about the incident has leaned towards the positive, and while it was an understandably harrowing ordeal, the actor himself took to social media to confirm that he was “on the mend” while thanking first responders for their efforts. He shared a photo of himself on his Instagram page, and left the following caption:
“Hello everyone!
“Thank you so much for all the well wishes, love and kind messages from friends and strangers. I am extraordinarily thankful to the heroic people that pulled me from the car and to the warm, kind and talented staff at the hospital that cared for me and got me on the mend! I am thankful beyond words to be here and doing relatively alright, all things considered. I don’t have my phone, so haven’t been online much. I do not recommend my method of decreasing screen-time. If you’re a friend who sent a kind, loving message, you should know that it was hard to not respond with, ‘I’d love to be on your podcast.’ I love you all and please take care of yourselves, Eugene.”
In Bob’s Burgers, Gene is the plucky 11-year-old son of Bob (H. Jon Benjamin) and Linda (John Roberts), who has a strong appreciation for food, his mother, and music. Kristen Schaal voices his sister Louise and Dan Mintz voices his sister Tina. The full extent of Mirman’s injuries has not been revealed, though the photo he posted of himself shows a bandaged and bruised right hand and wrist. Schaal herself commented on the post, “My brother’s alive! HE’S ALIVE!” Fellow comedian John Hodgman joked, “I love you. Podcast is booked solid tho.” The crash occurred at the Bedford Toll Plaza on the F.E. Everett Turnpike in Bedford, New Hampshire. According to NBC Boston, the plaza has a long history of incidents that have occurred there, resulting in the injury and death of both drivers and toll workers. Back in 2018, Caleb Scofield, member of New England-based metal bands Cave In and Old Man Gloom, died as a result of a crash occurring at the same plaza. Authorities reported that the crash was under investigation and that no official charges had been filed related to the incident.
In addition to being an accomplished comedian, Mirman has a long list of voice-acting roles, which include Archer, Home Movies, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and The Boys Presents: Diabolical. Our thoughts go out to the performer’s family and friends in this difficult time.
