Welliver has now been cast in the upcoming fourth season of The Night Agent, and while specific details about his character haven’t been revealed yet, this leaves plenty of room for speculation on how he’ll fit into the show’s conspiracy-heavy world. Its momentum has continued well beyond that first breakout run, with the series already renewed for a fourth season. Season 4 is set to shift production to Los Angeles and to follow Peter Sutherland into a new conspiracy involving a dark-money network. Casting Welliver is a smart move because his screen presence does a lot of work before he even utters a word. In Bosch, he created a TV detective who felt worn-in rather than another exaggerated anti-hero, which helped the series stand out in a crowded field. At the same time, Bosch: Legacy is ending with Season 3, which makes The Night Agent look like a timely new home for one of modern TV crime drama’s most dependable leads. For Netflix, that is a useful bit of crossover appeal. For viewers, it is an easy sell. The Night Agent already had a reputation as a sturdy, audience-friendly thriller.
