‘The Pitt’ Season 3 Officially Sets November Time Jump & Holiday Setting
May 14, 2026
After two wildly successful seasons on HBO Max, The Pitt now stands as one of the most popular new shows in the world, thanks to its blend of drama and intrigue. Behind leading star and Emmy-winner Noah Wyle, this show follows Dr. Michael “Robby” Rabinovitch and his staff’s work at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center (PTMC), exploring a full 15-hour shift on the job; this is explored in 15-episode seasons, with each episode centered on one hour of that given shift. In its first two seasons, the series earned an impressive 13 Emmy Award nominations and took home five golden trophies, including four acting awards. Considering how successful this show has been, it comes as no surprise that The Pitt earned a Season 3 renewal one day before Season 2 even began airing on HBO Max. The real question moving forward is how the plot details for Season 3 will come together, after Season 1 was set in September and Season 2 was set over Fourth of July weekend. Now, as the series gets set to take on new patients and stories, fresh information has been revealed about what to expect from the next 15 episodes. Speaking at Warner Bros.’ Upfronts presentation in New York City (per Deadline), The Pitt star Noah Wyle shared that Season 3 will be set sometime in November. While he only offered that month as a timeframe for the show, he explained that Season 3 is “about to start production” and that it is “set in early November, just before the holidays,” which will bring “a whole new set of emergencies and confrontations and complications.”

Although Wyle did not specify which holiday the season would be leading up to, the show has both Veterans’ Day and Thanksgiving as options to use for the plot. Considering the season will be set specifically in early November, Veterans’ Day may be the more likely option. This is especially true since the show has frequently featured veterans in its storylines, including Shawn Hatosy’s Dr. Shawn Abbott (who was bumped from a guest star to a supporting actor), Sepiedeh Moafi’s Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi, and Jeff Kober’s Duke Ekins. Production on the new season is anticipated to begin in June, and Season 3 has an expected release timeframe set for January 2027, the same month in which the first two seasons started airing. While specific plotlines for each episode have not been revealed, the lead-up to the holidays is sure to add plenty of drama and stress, because most families prefer to be together during the holidays, not in hospitals.
Pittsburgh’s November weather — typically cold, cloudy, and moderately snowy — could add hazards to the season. This is sure to add an extra level of danger to the cases the PTMC will handle in this new season, which will give its cast countless new challenges to face as they take care of those in need.
