Taylor Sheridan’s popular action thriller series starring Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman is finally back. Since the second season debuted back in late 2024, fans have been waiting patiently for Paramount+ to announce a return date. Not only has the long-awaited Season 3 premiere date been officially revealed, but the first look at the show’s return has the star-studded cast back in action. It has been announced that Lioness Season 3 is set to debut on Paramount+ on Aug. 2, per Entertainment Weekly. New first-look images were also revealed, showcasing the main cast, including Saldaña, Kidman, Morgan Freeman, and more, conducting explosive covert operations. The upcoming season sees CIA officer Joe McNamara (Saldaña) back to lead the Lioness program, now grappling with conflicts at home and abroad. It sounds like viewers will get to see more of her personal life this time around, especially as she “confronts enemies operating in the shadows.” Speaking with EW, Saldaña revealed she had conversations with Sheridan regarding the narrative direction of Lioness Season 3. She was very happy and proud of the final result, but did admit that the new season was “very demanding,” to the point that she was not sure she was going to be able to “pull it off.” As Saldaña noted, the series “strikes a rare balance between high-octane action and genuine emotional depth,” which she attributed to the fact that it centers on the “intersectional relationships” between “incredibly complex women.”
“What I love the most about the show is that it strikes a rare balance between high-octane action and genuine emotional depth. I don’t think I would be able to be a part of a show that would only be action without having these intersectional relationships with these incredibly complex women.”

Meanwhile, expect to see returning favorites, including Laysla De Oliveira and Genesis Rodriguez, back in the fight against terror. After the explosive events of Lioness Season 2, they will still be under the close mentorship of Joe, who has not exactly had a loving relationship with them. Still, expect Joe to have their backs this season, especially since the character sees them as her potential replacements someday. Saldaña talked about the series “shedding light” on the underrepresented dynamic between women.
“Even though they butt heads with Joe, they eventually see who Joe is. And Joe’s hope for the future is that they will fill her position, because Joe knows women like her will always be needed. Her way of paying back what has been given to her is making sure that these women stay alive, because she does really care about these women. It may seem like masculine relationships for women to have, but these do exist, and I appreciate that we are shedding light on that.”
The rest of the Lioness Season 3 cast officially features Michael Kelly, Ian Bohen, Sandi Todorovic, LaMonica Garrett, and Thad Luckinbill. The plot details thus far suggest that the series will lean into the personal lives of the characters, but the first-look images confirm audiences will still be treated to action-packed thrills once it premieres on Aug. 3 on Paramount+.
