Netflix Confirms Fate of Star-Studded 90% RT-Rated Remake After Two Seasons
Jun 17, 2026
From the earliest days of Netflix delivering subscribers original content in the beginning of streaming era, it’s always had hilarious comedies. Titles like Orange Is the New Black, the revival of Arrested Development, Master of None, and more brought consistent laughs, while one of the most talked-about comedies in recent years is the sketch comedy show I Think You Should Leave from Tim Robinson. One of its more recent hits, though, is an original series, though it’s based on a 1981 movie. The movie’s premise is that a group of couples make it a point to get together for a vacation four times a year: once in every season. Audiences saw the characters all cope with the various components of marital troubles, friendships fading, and the many other seemingly mundane elements that people face as they approach middle age. When Netflix revived the idea, they kept the core concept, but enlisted the talents of Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Will Forte, and Colman Domingo. While Season 2 of The Four Seasons only just premiered weeks ago on the streamer, Netflix confirmed that a Season 3 is officially on the way. Given how recently Season 2 premiered and how busy the talented cast is, there’s no current production start for the next batch of episodes, nor is there a release date.
“We are thrilled to be able to bring a third season of The Four Seasons to life,” creators Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield shared in a statement. “Thank you to everyone who watched. Middle-aged people, LFG!” Even though the series has a number of top-tier comedians in the cast, it’s not just a show about laughter, as there’s plenty of trauma and heartfelt emotion in each season. One of the notable developments is that Season 1 starred Steve Carell, with his character Nick dying at the end of that season. This then opened the door for Nick’s soon-to-be ex-wife Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver), as well as the rest of the friends, to cope with the loss in Season 2. “It’s been a joy watching the chaotic, beautiful journey of these lifelong friends,” Tracey Pakosta, vice president of US comedy series at Netflix, added. “Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield have a magical way of blending heart and sharp humor, making us feel like part of the inner circle. Audiences have fallen in love with these characters and this legendary cast’s electric chemistry. We’re thrilled to keep the vacation going for Season 3.”
Season 1 of the series earned promising reactions from critics, scoring 78% positive reviews according to aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, but Season 2 got even stronger marks, sitting at 90% positive. Surprisingly, these marks are even better than the original movie, which has a 68% positive rating. Another surprising component of the renewal is that, compared to Season 1 of the series, Season 2 debuted to a 63% drop in viewership, as calculated by What’s on Netflix. It seems likely that Netflix wants to ensure the highly sought-after talent involved gets to continue a promising collaboration with the streamer, while also giving Season 2 a chance to earn long-term success.
