One of the best video game adaptations of all time is officially back. Netflix is hard at work on a second season of its most critically acclaimed sci-fi action series, and fans can now get a sneak peek at one of the show’s new main characters. After the heartbreaking events of the first installment, the series now shifts gears to a different storyline set in the neon-lit dystopian metropolis known as Night City. Netflix unveiled a new look at Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. A piece of promotional art was spotted at the event, featuring a young, blonde character holding a camera. No further details have been confirmed about the plot, but there is a good chance that the new protagonist has been revealed. The character was first teased in the Edgerunners Season 2 announcement trailer, which included silhouettes of the main ensemble crew. You can check out the image below. First confirmed in summer 2025, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 still does not have an official release date on Netflix. Furthermore, if it ends up premiering sometime in 2027, it would have been more than four years since the first season debuted back in 2022. That’s a long wait for one of Netflix’s highest-rated shows of all time, but it is not totally atypical for a big-budget animated project, especially one as involved as Edgerunners. There is also the fact that it will cover an entirely different storyline, meaning a new show must essentially be built from the ground up.

Like the first installment, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 is expected to consist of 10, 30-minute episodes. The Japanese animation company Studio Trigger is developing the new season alongside CD Projekt, the video game studio behind Cyberpunk 2077, which the Netflix series is based on. Edgerunners takes place in the same universe as 2077, which primarily revolves around the neon-lit streets of Night City. It will be interesting to see if the second season of the animated show will feature characters from the game, especially since the first included several familiar faces.

Along with Edgerunners Season 2, Netflix is also developing another animated title and a live-action project based on Cyberpunk 2077. The latter was first announced back in October 2023, with many speculating that it would be a feature-length film, but details have been scarce since. Anonymous Content, the company behind acclaimed projects like The Revenant, Mr. Robot and True Detective, is partnering with the streamer to produce the live-action take on Cyberpunk 2077.
