The fate of Taylor Sheridan’s latest Yellowstone spin-off has been confirmed after just one season. Starring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser as Beth and Rip, respectively, the new Paramount+ series debuted back in May to positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. That goodwill, as well as some impressive streaming numbers, has landed the neo-western drama an unsurprising announcement from the streamer. Paramount+ has officially renewed Dutton Ranch for Season 2, the streamer confirmed on Wednesday morning. The announcement comes after the series garnered 12.9 million viewers globally within the first week, making it the biggest original series debut in Paramount+ history. Dutton Ranch had its two-episode premiere on May 15, with new chapters releasing weekly until the finale, which is set for Jul. 3. Matt Thunell, the President of Paramount Television Studios, released the following statement in light of the renewal:
“Dutton Ranch has resonated with audiences in a powerful way, building on the legacy of beloved characters, while establishing its own identity. “Thank you to our partners at Paramount+ and 101 Studios for a phenomenal first season. We look forward to bringing fans more stories from these unforgettable characters in Season Two.”
Dutton Ranch follows Beth and Rip as they relocate to a large ranch in South Texas, far from their original home in Montanta. The change in scenery comes with a new set of surrounding characters, some of whom are not exactly fond of the Duttons’ arrival. A rival ranch threatens to destroy what Beth and Rip are trying to build in their new life, while fresh allies join the fray as part of the extended family.

Alongside Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, Dutton Ranch features an impressive ensemble cast led by several major award winners. Five-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening makes her Yellowstone debut as Beulah Jackson, the matriarch of the Jackson Family and owner of 10 Petal Ranch. The rest of the family is made up of Jai Courtney as Rob-Will Jackson, Juan Pablo Raba as Joaquin Jackson Reyes, and Natalie Alyn Lind as Oreana Lynn Jackson. Four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris plays Vietnam War veteran Everett McKinney, while Finn Little also features as Carter Green, the adopted son of Beth and Rip from Yellowstone.

Dutton Ranch is one of two major Yellowstone spin-offs currently on the air. While the Beth and Rip saga is closer in tone and style to the original parent show, Marshals is a more action-packed affair. The CBS series stars Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton as he embarks on a new mission to protect Montana as an elite group of U.S. Marshals. Critics have been more impressed by Dutton Ranch, but Marshals has seen its own fair share of success, landing an early renewal at the network.
