After never sharing a single scene, two Game of Thrones stars are in a movie together. Due to the many storylines taking place across Westeros and Essos, many important Game of Thrones characters never crossed paths, even after eight seasons and 73 episodes. One of the main reasons for this was the journey of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) being set in Essos for the majority of the series, but plenty of prominent characters in Westeros never met either. Now, Game of Thrones stars Kristofer Hivju and Tom Wlaschiha, whose characters Tormund Giantsbane and Jaqen H’ghar never met, are filming a movie called Uncle Egg. Hivju posted a video where he appears alongside Wlaschiha and their co-star Mikkel Knutsen Bjaadal, and enthusiastically tells audiences about the upcoming film. Check out the video below:

The actors reveal that shooting is underway in Germany, and Hivju describes the Norwegian language movie’s premise as “Rain Man for kids.” He emphasizes that his young co-star is “number one on the call sheet” and jokes about himself and Wlaschiha being extras. As for when the film will be released, there is no set release date yet, with the actors instead saying, “soon-ish.” As indicated in the caption of Hivju’s post, Uncle Egg is “a warm road movie” directed and written by Torfinn Iversen and produced by Julia Andersen, Fjordic Film, and Mideu Films. The project has also received support from the Norwegian Film Institute, whose website confirms that the original title was Onkel Egg, as the word “onkel” means “uncle” in the Norwegian language. The premiere is listed to be in the third quarter of 2027, with a 90-minute runtime, and an official synopsis that can be read below:
Hauk (12), a boy from northern Norway, embarks on a journey to Germany with his eccentric uncle, Uncle Egg, in the hope of finding his unknown biological father, whose name is Martin Müller. It turns out to be challenging when Hauk realizes that there are 25,000 men in Germany with the same name, and the journey puts the relationship between Hauk and Onkel Egg to the test.
Bjaadal plays Hauk, Hivju plays Uncle Egg, and Wlaschiha plays Martin Müller. The comparison to Rain Man seemingly comes from the family road trip plot involving brothers Charlie Babbitt (Tom Cruise) and Raymond Babbitt (Dustin Hoffman). Rain Man received eight Academy Award nominations, won in four categories, and grossed $354 million after being made on a $25 million production budget. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has an 88% critics’ score and a 90% audience score.

In terms of why Hivju and Wlaschiha never shared any Game of Thrones scenes in the years before working on Uncle Egg, it is because Tormund was always in the North and Jaqen never went there. Tormund was from beyond the Wall, and he did not end up going any further south than Winterfell. Wlaschiha’s first portrayal of Jaqen was in season 2, where he coincidentally was headed to the Wall, but the group ended up being taken to Harrenhal.

Season 2 also would have been too early for Tormund, as he does not debut until season 3, although after that he is in all remaining seasons. While he called himself “no one” instead of Jaqen, Wlaschiha returned in seasons 5 and 6 as the Faceless Man who taught Arya Stark (Maise Williams) to be an assassin like him. This was set in Braavos, one of the Free Cities in Essos, which is separated from Westeros by the Narrow Sea.

To American audiences, Wlaschiha is also known for playing the Russian character Dmitri Antonov in Stranger Things season 4. While the main Game of Thrones and Stranger Things shows have ended, they have extended into television franchises with multiple spinoffs released or in the works. None of these involve Hivju or Wlaschiha so far, though, allowing them to star in Uncle Egg instead.
