Dhamaal 4 has been co-produced by Ajay Devgn in association with Bhushan Kumar. The supporting cast includes Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Upendra Limaye, Anjali Anand, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Esha Gupta. This Hindi action-adventure comedy drama was released in theaters on July 10, 2026.

The Good:

I have to accept that Dhamaal 4 is visually mesmerizing. The CGI and special effects are stunning, with some daredevil and powerful action stunts. The sets and visuals appeared colourful, scenic, and magnificent, especially the treasure island’s jungle adventure sequences, which included tribal attacks as well as a variety of animal confrontations like tiger, snake, and crocodile.
Even if I didn’t enjoy the film very much, its climax touched my heart. I was deeply moved during the misadventurous ending sequence as the fun chaos suddenly turned tragic and emotional. It unexpectedly relied on personal realizations that changed the perceptions of the characters towards each other, which ultimately resulted in acceptance.

The Bad:

The Dhamaal film series heavily relies on slapstick comedy. As this is the fourth instalment of the Dhamaal series, I will be comparing it with its three prequels. I must tell you that the first two instalments of the Dhamaal franchise, Dhamaal (2007) and Double Dhamaal (2011), which featured Sanjay Dutt alongside the awesome foursome of Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Ashish Chaudhary, and Jaaved Jaaferi, were downright hilarious. These two prequels were so much comically entertaining that you won’t be able to control your laughter even for a single moment.
I don’t know why, as soon as Ajay Devgn stepped into the Dhamaal franchise as the lead actor, replacing Sanjay Dutt, it affected the comical essence of the franchise’s spiritual successors like Total Dhamaal (2019) and Dhamaal 4 (2026). To be honest, Dhamaal lost its hilarity and charm.
In Dhamaal 4, the majority of the instances appeared dunderheaded and unamusing. This adventure-comedy drama is severely lacking in the nature and quality of gags and punches, which had instilled outbursts of laughter in the first two prequels. And such a downfall has to do with the performances of the lead cast as well. Dhamaal (2007) and Double Dhamaal (2011) relied more on eccentric and lively acting coupled with the weirdest expressions you would have ever seen and gut-busting dialogues you have ever heard.

Although the casting in Dhamaal 4 is almost the same with Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, and Jaaved Jaaferi reprising their original titular characters, their comical performances fell flat. Maybe it’s because of the overly adventurous nature of the script or perhaps the way their characters have been designed for this spiritual sequel. Moreover, the absence of Sanjay Dutt’s comical machismo and Ashish Chaudhury’s peculiar and freakish character does take a toll on its humor. Ajay Devgn, supported by Sanjay Mishra as his adventure companion and Ravi Kishan as the lead antagonist pirate, have tried their best to match up with the comedy levels of the Dhamaal prequels. But unfortunately, they have failed in their efforts.
Danger Lies Beneath The Dhamaal: Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Footage!

For instance, during the opening scene in Dhamaal 4, where Ajay Devgn destroys Ravi Kishan’s pirate ship, I was amazed and wondered how an 18th-century pirate ship is being used in the modern era? But I never felt an ounce of laughter even when Devgn’s weird and jesterly entry resulted in the ship’s sinking. Similarly, the ghost scene where Devgn was pranked and scared by his on-screen girlfriend’s (Esha Gupta) children was indeed terrifying, but again, it failed to induce amusement.
Moreover, I was amazed by the CGI effects induced stunts performed during the treasure island trip scene where Devgn was seen emerging from the sea standing on two dolphins, Riteish Deshmukh hanging from a hot air balloon caught in a storm, and Arshad Warsi and his on-screen wife (Sanjeeda Sheikh) being attacked by a family of octopuses on their boat. But here also, I was just surprised and didn’t feel like laughing. Also, the jungle scene where Riteish’s heavyweight on-screen wife (Anjali Anand) takes on a vertically-challenged tribal man in a wrestling match was perplexing rather than amusing, considering the critical situation the couple was in. The screenplay appeared as if some pranks and fake stunts were being performed just to amaze, and not to amuse. The makers need to understand that just being loud isn’t automatically funny.

Apart from that, the first half of the screenplay in Dhamaal 4 was slouching with multiple character introductions and absurd instances involving some terrifying pranks and life-threatening accidents that were basically worrying rather than funny.
Sometimes, in an effort to create nostalgia, one ends up with recycled work. The plot of Dhamaal 4 is repetitive as it reprises the same old treasure hunt adventure story with certain similar incidents. The audiences are looking for something new and have outgrown this usual theme ages ago. I believe the makers of Dhamaal 4 are still stuck in the previous decades and are unable to come out of their treasure hunting dreams.

The Verdict: Fails To Satiate Our Comedy Taste Buds!

The plot of Double Dhamaal (2011) was unique, evoking comedy through its conning theme. It was a direct continuation of the story of Dhamaal (2007). Double Dhamaal (2011) ended with Sanjay Dutt conning the group of four con-men, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Ashish Chaudhary, and Jaaved Jaaferi. In its ending, they shouted, “He (Sanjay Dutt) has done Double Dhamaal with us. We are going to do Total Dhamaal with him”. That indicated the sequence “Total Dhamaal” was coming up.
But when Total Dhamaal finally came out in 2019, it was not a continuation but a spiritual sequel. Its story was completely different with a separate ensemble cast. Instead of Sanjay Dutt as the lead, it was Ajay Devgn who is still continuing the Dhamaal film series with Dhamaal 4. I was bitterly disappointed at this abrupt change in the film series’ concept, which did not continue the story from its second part. Maybe because of the personal commitments of actors like Sanjay Dutt and Ashish Chaudhary, they did not wish to continue with the franchise, which ultimately may have affected the flow of its comical plot.

I believe Dhamaal has lost its comical charm since Ajay Devgn stepped in as its lead actor and co-producer. The clichéd storytelling fell flat in Total Dhamaal (2019) as well as Dhamaal 4 (2026), as these co-productions of Devgn relied heavily on crude humor and show-off stunts, respectively, rather than witty, situational gags to crack you up.
The end credits of Dhamaal 4 informed us about the upcoming sequel “Dhamaal 5”, which could be in the making in the near future. I would suggest to the makers to include Sanjay Dutt as well as Ashish Chaudhary in that. Without them, the real “Dhamaal” just doesn’t build up and the humor feels backing out.

Being Loud Isn’t Funny: Dhamaal 4 (2026) Amazes Without Amusing!
After Total Dhamaal (2019), Ajay Devgn once again sets out on a misadventurous treasure hunt journey on an isolated and remote island with Arshad Warsi, Riteish Deshmukh, and Jaaved Jaaferi in Dhamaal 4 (2026). But unfortunately, even though their journey has several life-threatening, terrifying, and thrilling hurdles, the slapstick comedy factor just doesn’t add up.
It looks like there’s no Dhamaal without Sanju Baba! Creating the real Dhamaal isn’t Ajay Devgn’s cup of tea! I’m not saying Dhamaal 4 is bad. Just that it doesn’t give the vibe of a gut-busting comedy film.
