Wes Bentley Talks About Chasing the Role of Jamie Dutton & Ominously Teases What’s to Come [Yellowstoners Podcast]

Dec 16, 2022

The Yellowstoners, Mike DeAngelo and Rodrigo Perez, have returned to break down another season of “Yellowstone” like Beth’s bottle over some poor woman’s head. Along the way, they’ll also welcome guests from the show to discuss what makes the series so popular, their favorite characters and moments, and tease what’s to come.

For the uninitiated, the top-rated series follows John Dutton (Kevin Costner), a powerful rancher in Montana, as he struggles to keep his ranch and family together by any means necessary — all while being besieged by land developers, surrounding native tribes, and America’s first national park. The highly popular Taylor Sheridan show stars Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Luke Grimes, Cole Hauser, Gil Birmingham, and more.
On this podcast episode, our hosts throw their ropes around episode three, entitled “Tall Drink of Water,” which premiered yesterday on Paramount Network. Afterward, Jamie Dutton himself, Wes Bentley, sits down to talk about what drew him to “Yellowstone” beyond just the great script.
“Taylor [Sheridan]! Taylor’s name [drew me]. Bentley said. “I mean, before I even saw the script, I had already asked my team, ‘Please, let’s try to get on a Taylor Sheridan show.’ I just loved the writing and what he was doing. I love bringing back the Western in a new way and his perspective on that. And then I got the script and [started] talking to Taylor, and it just sounded like such a cool project. So different. It was easy. It wasn’t like I was debating it much.”

Then, looking forward to the rest of season five, Bentley was happy to tease Jamie’s upcoming journey with Beth, John, and the rest of the Yellowstone gang.
“The only thing Jamie wanted out of this arrangement was to become a Governor or something powerful like a senator and be his own man.” Bentley shared. “And now, John’s taken that from him, too. And I think this is all taking away any hope Jamie had that things would ever be OK for him and that he would be appreciated or maybe even celebrated. It’s worse than that. He might be dead before this is all over.”
“It’s difficult [to tease],” He continued. “We have a lot of open-ended questions and a lot of cliffhangers. I’m really excited for fans to see what comes of it, but I can say the political intrigue and more cliffhangers and more people getting in the fight – it’s an inflection point. John really is running out of places to go and ways to turn and tricks to do, so I think it’s going to be really interesting and intense for the fans.”
As for what’s next for Wes Bentley, some fans might remember that he showed up in “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” as a doctor named Erik, and husband to Ethan Hunt’s once great love, Julia. Bentley was asked if he can confirm that he shows up in the next entry in the “Mission: Impossible” series. To which he could only smile and say, “Well, I don’t think I can say anything about that.”
