Cillian Murphy Set to Star in and Produce an Film Adaptation of SMALL THINGS LIKE THESE — GeekTyrant

Mar 27, 2023

Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins, Peaky Blinders, Oppenheimer) has found his next film project as he is set to star in and produce an adaptation of Claire Keegan’s acclaimed novel Small Things Like These. The project is already shooting in Ireland with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity producing. The story takes place over Christmas in 1985, “when devoted father Bill Furlong (Murphy) discovers the startling secrets being kept by the convent in his town, and some shocking truths about his own life as well.” This is the description from the book:It is 1985 in a small Irish town. During the weeks leading up to Christmas, Bill Furlong, a coal merchant and family man faces into his busiest season. Early one morning, while delivering an order to the local convent, Bill makes a discovery which forces him to confront both his past and the complicit silences of a town controlled by the church.Ciarán Hinds and Emily Watson are also starring in the film with Tim Mielants directing. Mielants and Murphy previously worked together on Peaky Blinders. The script is being written by Enda Walsh, a longtime collaborator of Murphy’s, and the story has been likened to a Dickens tale. Murphy said in a statement: “I’m honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to bring Claire Keegan’s magnificent novel to the screen. We have gathered together a phenomenal team of creatives to make this film, and found exceptional partners in AE, a studio led by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck — actors and filmmakers I have admired for many years.”Murphy is a talented actor, and I’ve enjoyed the projects he’s been a part of and the characters that he’s played. It’s great to see him make something that he’s really passionate about.Source: Deadline
