Series Creator Teases Ryan Coogler’s Involvement In A Reboot Of The Series

If you’re a person of a certain age, you are probably well aware of the cultural impact that “The X-Files” had during the ‘90s. Everywhere you looked, there was Mulder and Scully and the phrase, “The truth is out there.” Well, it appears that “The X-Files” might be making a return thanks to none other than Ryan Coogler. Yes, that Ryan Coogler.

According to an interview with On the Coast With Gloria Macarenko (via Bloody Disgusting), Chris Carter teased that Ryan Coogler is currently developing a new version of “The X-Files.” It’s unclear if this will be a remake, reboot, sequel, rebootquel, or whatever, but just the fact that Coogler is involved seems like enough to get anyone excited about this.
“I just spoke to a young man… Ryan Coogler… who is going to remount ‘The X-Files’ with a diverse cast,” said Carter. “So he’s got his work cut out for him because we covered so much territory.”
For those who aren’t familiar with the original series, “The X-Files” follows the story of Agents Mulder and Scully who investigate supernatural phenomena. That could range anywhere from aliens to urban legends to people with special powers and everything in-between.

The original run of the series lasted nine seasons from 1993 to 2001. The series was revived back in 2016 for two more seasons, bringing the total number of episodes to 218 (gotta love the good ol’ days when networks ran series into the ground). “The X-Files” was so popular, it spawned two spinoffs (“Millennium” and “The Lone Gunmen”), two feature films, and a ton of books, comics, etc.
Obviously, it’s far too soon to know if anything will come of Ryan Coogler’s involvement. But with two massive “Black Panther” films, as well as “Creed” and “Fruitvale Station,” under his belt, this is a guy who can seemingly get anything he wants made. So, perhaps there is a future for “The X-Files,” after all.
