Yellowjackets’ Melanie Lynskey Talks Shauna’s Thoughts After Killing Adam

Apr 8, 2023

As Showtime’s deeply disturbing cult hit series Yellowjackets returns to the small screen, Melanie Lynskey shared some details on how her character, Shauna, processed everything that happened last season. Shauna has made a lot of bad decisions, and one of them is killing Adam at the end of season one. She decided to kill him after she suspected that he was the one who was blackmailing the Yellowjackets who survived. Shauna went to Adam’s place to discuss it, leading to a confrontation. While they were arguing, she decided to stab him dead.

Misty, Taissa, and Natali helped Shauna clean up and bury evidence at the crime scene. As if killing someone and burying evidence isn’t enough, Shauna later found out that it was Jeff all along. He was the one blackmailing them to save his furniture shop. While the four of them might have cleaned the crime scene thoroughly, it’s possible that they might have left something that can implicate them in Adam’s murder.

Not only did Shauna kill an innocent man, but she killed someone she cared for a lot. Can she really move on and forget everything? It’s one of the few things season two will explore as the series returns on Paramount Plus and Showtime.

Shauna’s Headspace After Killing Someone She Cared For

As the series is set to return, cast members went to promote the series. Lynskey talked to Collider and shared some details on what her character looks like in season two. The actress hinted at Shauna’s condition after the killing, which takes place at the beginning of the current season.

The actress was asked whether Shauna’s more concerned about covering her crime or if she feels overwhelmed with the remorse of killing someone innocent. She shared,

“I think that she’s being guided by pure panic and the knowledge that she’s just made a series of bad decisions, and she probably shouldn’t make any more, but she just can’t seem to stop. There’s a lot going on in Episode 1 when Misty is like, ‘Well, you got rid of this and this and this,’ and she is hanging on to those things out of remorse. She’s hanging on to those things because it’s a person she did care about, and she’s not yet processed the fact that she actually killed someone who really liked her, and what does that mean? She’s an interesting one.”

Yellowjackets season two premiered on Showtime on Mar. 24.
