The Flash Fan Art Imagines the Look of the Villain
Apr 8, 2023
After a wait that seemed to last forever, Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen will come solo to the big screen with The Flash, one of the upcoming films in the DC universe, directed by Argentinean Andy Muschietty. The film, which will adapt one of the character’s most popular story arcs, Flashpoint, will arrive in theaters on June 16.
In addition to bringing back the character officially introduced in 2017’s Justice League, The Flash will introduce one of the most relevant villains in DC Comics, Dark Flash. And this is how @youssef_defenshi imagines it:
Created by writers Grant Morrison and Mark Millar, and artist Ron Wagner, Dark Flash made his first cameo appearance in The Flash (vol. 2) #138 in June 1998 before being definitively introduced in The Flash #141 in September 1998. Dark Flash essentially fills the same role as Death for those who possess super speed in the DC Universe, returning the speedster to his power source: the Speed Force.

DC Beyond The Flash
Warner Bros.
The Flash will be the second DC and Warner movie to hit theaters this year after Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which opens in March. Later in August, Xolo Mariduena will debut as Jaime Reyes in Blue Beetle, the company’s first Latino superhero. The actor will be joined by Harvey Guillen, Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Raoul Max Trujillo, Damian Alcázar, and George Lopez, with Susan Sarandon as the main villain and Jason Sudeikis playing Ted Kord, a previous version of the character.
The year will close with the return of Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which will see the character unexpectedly teaming up with Patrick Wilson’s Orm to save the underwater kingdoms from an outside threat more powerful than they could imagine.
Beyond these projects, which were conceived by the DCU’s old conception, the franchise’s future is unclear. However, James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, confirmed that this month he would reveal some news related to the first phase of his 10-year plan to turn the DC universe into something similar to what Kevin Feige achieved with Marvel Studios. This strategy will include, among other things, a new version of Superman after leaving Henry Cavill out of the role with the idea of finding a younger actor who can bring the Man of Steel to life for a long time.
