James Gunn’s Instagram Story Might Have Hinted at Amanda Waller’s Return to the New DC Universe

Apr 9, 2023

James Gunn recently posted an Instagram story that seemingly confirmed the return of Amanda Waller to the new DCU. The director posted a picture of his cat in front of his computer with the caption ‘Writing partner,’ and fans’ investigative skills made it clear that Waller’s name is on the director’s desktop screen. However, it’s not confirmed if James Gunn intentionally posted the picture to give the fans some hint.

The last time Amanda Waller was seen in DC was through the film Black Adam. Viola Davis portrays Amanda Waller, a major supporting character in the film franchise. She was first seen in the former DCEU through Suicide Squad in 2016, followed by The Suicide Squad in 2021, then two episodes of Peacemaker, and lastly, Black Adam in 2022. So it perfectly makes sense for Waller to be part of the new DCU since it was already established that she’s the connecting thread between the two worlds.

James Gunn’s DCU Has A Lot Of Major Changes

At this point, one of the significant changes in James Gunn’s DCU is that Henry Cavill will no longer be part of the franchise. It was already confirmed that Superman would be a part of the next DCU film, and Henry Cavill will not reprise his Justice League character. Gunn confirmed last month that Henry Cavill would no longer be part of the future DCU since the story they’ve been working on will focus on the earlier stage of Superman’s life.

James Gunn previously tweeted, “Peter & I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldn’t be more over-the-moon about; we’ll be able to share some exciting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year. Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill.” He further revealed, “But we just had a great meeting with Henry, and we’re big fans, and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.”

The director has been actively answering fans’ queries about the new DCU. First, he revealed that the DCU would dive into the world of video games. Gunn and Safran will take charge of the interconnected DC universe across film, TV, animated projects, and now video games. Gunn also revealed that Wonder Woman 3 is no longer possible; however, Gal Gadot may be staying as Wonder Woman.
