Apr 12, 2023

As Warner Bros. Discovery rebrands HBO Max to Max, the studio has updates and teasers for all sorts of shows that will premiere on the streamer soon. One of the most anticipated of those is undoubtedly “True Detective: Night Country,” which sees the new season chart course for the icy wilds of Alaska.

Jodie Foster and Kali Reis headline the new season’s cast as two detectives tasked with finding eight missing researchers. How could these men disappear without a trace, and what sinister secrets lie in the icy darkness?
Here’s a new logline for “True Detective: Night Country,” courtesy of HBO:
When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.
Alongside Foster and Reis, “Night Country” also stars Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, Isabella Star Lablanc, Aka Niviâna, and Anna Lambe.  Joel D. Montgrand, Christopher Eccleston, and John Hawkes also star this season.
Issa López serves as showrunner and writer and directs every episode of “Night Country.” She also serves as executive producer with Foster.  Barry Jenkins, Adele Romanski, and Mark Ceryak also executive produce through PASTEL. Other executive producers on the series are as follows: Mari Jo Winkler; Chris Mundy; Alan Page Arriaga; Steve Golin; Richard Brown; Woody Harrelson; Matthew McConaughey; Cary Joji Fukunaga; and Nic Pizzolatto. Pizzolatto isn’t creatively involved with “Night Country.” Producers on the series include Princess Daazhraii Johnson, Cathy Tagnak Rexford, and Sam Breckman.
So will “True Detective: Night Country” reach the brilliance of the show’s first season? Or will it be another solid but not quite all-time season like the past two? Find out when the series premieres on HBO and Max later this year. Check out a trailer for “True Detective: Night Country” below.
