Kate Winslet Stars In Stephen Frears’ New HBO Drama Coming In 2024
Apr 12, 2023
After the success of “Mare of Easttown” and all its Emmy success—16 Emmy nominations and four key wins, including most of the main cast—it became clear that HBO loved Kate Winslet and Winslet loved HBO. While a season two of ‘Easttown’ never materialized—series writer/creator Brad Ingelsby thought the story had been told—that did not deter Winslet from chasing down other projects on the premiere cable channel.

So with that, HBO has released the official teaser for the limited series “The Regime” (which changed its name from the original title “The Palace”). Starring Academy Award-winner Kate Winslet, the series is directed by Stephen Frears and Jessica Hobbs (“The Crown”) and was written by Will Tracy. The teaser was revealed today exclusively during Warner Bros. Discovery’s unveiling of the Max, the new HBO Max brand name, streaming service on the Warner Bros. lot in Los Angeles.
Joining the previously announced cast of Winslet, Matthias Schoenaerts, Guillaume Gallienne, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, and Hugh Grant, the newly announced cast members include Danny Webb, David Bamber, Henry Goodman, Stanley Townsend, Louie Mynett, Rory Keenan, Karl Markovics, and Pippa Haywood.
Here’s the simple logline and synopsis: THE REGIME tells the story of one year within the walls of the palace of a modern European regime as it begins to unravel.
Will Tracy, known for writing “The Menu” (2022) and episodes of “Succession” (2018), serves as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Executive producers are Winslet, Frears, Frank Rich, and Tracey Seaward. Hobbs serves as co-executive producer, and writers are Seth Reiss, Juli Weiner, Jen Spyra, Gary Shteyngart, and Sarah DeLappe.
Despite the early teaser trailer. HBO won’t be releasing “The Regime” this year. The teaser ends with an intriguing 2024 tease. Oh well, more to savor.
