DCU Animated/Live-Action ‘Creature Commandos’ Cast Announced

Apr 13, 2023

When the first handful of projects were announced for DC Studios, one of them was an animated series based on the DC Comics team “Creature Commandos.” The project would see the voice cast making the transition to live-action incarnations as well down the road. The new genre series was announced alongside a string of feature films such as James Gunn‘s “Superman: Legacy,” a new Batman project called “The Brave & The Bold,” “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” and James Mangold‘s “Swamp Thing” remake as part of their “Chapter One: Gods & Monsters” lineup. There is now a big update about “Creature Commandos.”

The Wrap has revealed that Frank Grillo (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier“) would be playing Rick Flag Sr. in the show, the WWII veteran father of Joel Kinnaman‘s character from “The Suicide Squad.” Gunn has written all the episodes of the series and it will debut sometime in 2024 on Max (formerly HBO Max) with an expectation it’ll be the first of a handful of DCU projects ahead of the feature films.
Meanwhile, Collider was able to get their hands on the rest of the casting lineup which was confirmed by Gunn himself on social media (see below). Those other additions for the DCU project includes Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot and Weasel, with Steve Agee reprising his role as John Economos from “Peacemaker.”
It’s also expected to feature Viola Davis, as the team is being overseen by Amanda Waller, and will also get her own live-action spinoff series. We’re still waiting to learn when the live-action version of “Creature Commandos” will be making their debut, although, a second season of “Peacemaker” and the “Waller” spinoff might be a good place for them to show up.
