‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ Trailer: Worlds Collide In Prequel
Dec 18, 2022
There was a recent shakeup in the world of “The Witcher” as Liam Hemsworth is now set to play Geralt of Rivia after Henry Cavill vacated the fantasy role that has been explored in multiple novels and popular video games. Netflix is also about to drop a four-part series with the prequel “The Witcher: Blood Origin” that stars Michelle Yeoh, who is coming off a strong year on the big screen with The Daniels’ “Everything Everywhere All At Once” becoming a massive hit for A24 Films and may end up getting some award nominations at the next Oscars ceremony. The recasting and prequel are good signs that Netflix is very much invested in continuing and expanding “The Witcher” universe for years to come.
Thanks to Netflix, a newly released full trailer for “Blood Origin” (see below) now gives us more insight into this world and the threat that the collection of heroes will face over those four episodes. Being set during the eleven Golden Era means it can take some creative liberties to separate itself from the flagship series.

The prequel’s protagonists include Éile (Sophia Brown) and Fjall (Laurence O’Fuarain), warriors who were previously sworn enemies before aligning along with five other heroes. This rag-tag group is brought together when they must combat the mounting political and magical dangers sweeping through the Continent. Of course, one of the battle-hardened brawlers is Scían, a sword master played by the aforementioned Yeoh.
Here is an official synopsis for “Blood Origin” via Netflix:
Taking place in the elven Golden Era, 1200 years before the time of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri, ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ tells the story of seven strangers who join together to fight an unstoppable empire. Though they hail from warring clans, Éile and Fjall must learn to trust one another if they have any hope of leading this band of outcasts on their quest to topple the Continent’s oppressors. But, when gateways to other worlds are opened and a power-hungry sage unleashes a new weapon, the Seven realize they must create a monster in order to defeat one…
You can watch that new trailer below, and “Blood Origin” debuts on December 25.
