Jon Bernthal Gets Ready to Suit Up as The Punisher

Apr 15, 2023

Jon Bernthal prepares to suit up as The Punisher once again. A few weeks ago, Daredevil: Born Again began filming for the long-awaited series that will mark the official return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, now under the wing of the MCU after the cancelation of the Netflix series.

Although it will be a new story, it will have many connections with that successful production that became one of the most acclaimed superhero series in recent years. The main connection will obviously be in the actors returning to bring the same characters to life.

Along with Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio will return as Kingpin, who already appeared in the Hawkeye series, and Jon Bernthal, who will once again play Frank Castle, aka The Punisher. Like Charlie’s Murdock, Jon’s Castle left a huge mark on fans, to the point where it had its own spin-off on Netflix.

Now, with his return getting closer, Bernthal is training to dazzle again, as it is shown in a video posted by his trainer on Instagram:

“How many ppl can say they’ve held pads for [the Punisher] himself? AkA Jon Bernthal. Also known as Shane walsh Mr.Take yo chick during an apocalypse! PSA Don’t put him in none of those Celebrity Boxing matches b4 he tko somebody and end they actin career… HE GOT HANDS!”

Jon Bernthal wasn’t the first actor to bring a live-action version of Frank Castle to life. In 1989, Dolph Lundgren was the first commissioned to bring the character to the big screen, although the adaptation had several changes and even did not have his iconic skull in the suit.

In 2004, Thomas Jane played Frank Castle in a new adaptation, changing some of the character’s origin events. Recently, Jane and Bernthal unexpectedly reunited in a photo at Taran Tactical:

“There are 3 multi-universe Spiderman, 2 Batman, and we had our own multi-universe Punishers at Taran Tactical. Who wants to see the training day videos?”

It is still unknown if Daredevil: Born Again will respect Frank’s origin story or if Marvel Studios will change it. In fact, the character’s involvement in the series is also a mystery since it could have a large part or just a small cameo.

Daredevil: Born Again will arrive exclusively at Disney+ in 2024.
