She-Hulk Head Writer Talks Introducing Hulk’s Son, Skaar, in Series Finale

Dec 18, 2022

The finale for the latest Marvel Disney+ series, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, is chock-full of surprises. From breaking the fourth wall more than ever before, to a further appearance from Matt Murdock, the final moments saved one of the biggest shocks for last – introducing Hulk’s son, Skaar. Speaking with EW, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law creator Jessica Gao has explained why Skaar was brought in as a last-minute addition to the Hulk gang. And what his debut could mean for the future of the MCU.

“Initially when we first started talking about how the season would end, we were like, ‘It’d be fun if we did a big cameo at the very, very end, the last scene, the last moment, a big cameo from the MCU. That’d be really cool.’ But then we realized that’s so dependent on who’s willing to do it, what their availability is, and there’s just no way at the scripting stage that we would be able to get any sort of guarantees on who would be able to do it. It’s so dependent on that that you can’t really commit to a person in the script. So then we thought it would be really cool if we could tease a new character at the end, either as the last moment of the last scene or even as a post-credits tag.”

Gao goes on to reveal some insight into choosing this final cameo saying, “[the writers] went through a lot of the comics to find out who we could use,” before realizing that “it was really dependent on whether or not [Marvel boss] Kevin [Feige] would okay all of that.” No doubt several ideas were halted by the iron fist of K.E.V.I.N. Eventually, it was indeed Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige who decided that Skaar was the best choice.

“It was Kevin himself who decided that it should be Skaar, so direct all future questions about that to the man himself.”

What Could Skaar’s Introduction Mean for Bruce Banner & She-Hulk?

Disney Platform Distribution

Introduced in the pages of Marvel Comics back in 2007’s World War Hulk, Skaar is the son of the Hulk and Caiera the Oldstrong as a result of Hulk’s time spent as a champion gladiator on the planet of Sakaar. After taking over the planet, Skaar is eventually exiled to Earth, where he battles alongside She-Hulk before being trained how to be the best Hulk he can be by his father, Bruce Banner.

For now, we have no idea how much of a role in the MCU Skaar will play. But clearly Kevin Feige has plans for him, with his arrival certainly suggesting that there will be a lot of Hulk-related action in the near future.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is the MCU’s first sitcom, and follows Jennifer Walters, a single attorney in her 30s, whose life becomes even more complicated when is suddenly able to become a 6-foot-7-inch green superhero after an accident. Starring Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk alongside Jameela Jamil, Ginger Gonzaga, Mark Ruffalo, Josh Segarra, Jon Bass, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Tim Roth, Benedict Wong, and Charlie Cox, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premiered on August 18, 2022 and has been met with largely positive reviews from critics.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law can now be watched in its entirety on Disney+.
