Dave Filoni Ends Fan Debate Over “Orange” Lightsabers in Ahsoka
Apr 22, 2023
Since the arrival of the first trailer for Ahsoka, Star Wars fans have been arguing online over the inclusion of some new lightsabers that appeared to be orange in color. In the trailer, new to-franchise villains Baylon and Shin are seen wielding lightsabers that are not the usual red-bladed weapons generally used by the villains of the saga. After days of debate on social media, Dave Filoni has settled the argument once and for all, revealing in an interview with Screen Rant that the new weapons are indeed more orange than previous villain lightsabers. He said:
“I made it a little bit more orange. That’s really good eye. You’re the first person to catch that. That was very intentional. I didn’t make them just a stark red. I remember as a kid that Vader’s lightsaber kind of fluctuated from visual effects to being a little bit more orange. I didn’t want to go straight up orange, but it’s identifying a little bit of something to kids that they might not straight up be what you think they are in the beginning. It’s good you caught that. Nothing is accidental.”
Lightsabers have always had significance in the Star Wars franchise, with each color having a different meaning. Red has always been associated with the dark side of the Force. Why the new additions to Ahsoka’s villain lineup wield orange lightsabers is something that is yet to be revealed, but Filoni has made it clear that there is a reason for it. Most likely, this suggests that Baylon and Shin are not fully aligned with the ways of the Sith and could end up swapping sides during the show.

Ahsoka’s Trailer Release Has Hyped Up Fans for the New Disney+ Series
Disney+
Ahsoka is now set to debut on Disney+ in August 2023, and the arrival of the first trailer has excited fans for the Rosario Dawson-led series. Forming another part of The Mandalorian’s world, Ahsoka will see several characters from the Clone Wars and Rebels being brought into live-action and continue on the story teased in the latter of these. One character who will heavily feature in the show is Grand Admiral Thrawn, played by Lars Mikkelsen. Many fans have begun to question whether the character will make his live-action debut in the current season of The Mandalorian first. However, no one is spoiling whether that happens, and with only two episodes of the Pedro Pascal series to go, we will soon know one way or the other.
With the current run of Star Wars shows now set to culminate in a movie event that will be directed by Filoni. However, with at least one more season of The Mandalorian to come after the release of Ahsoka, there is still plenty of action to come before this era of the franchise comes to its conclusion, and it seems that for now, fans are still very much on board with the way it is all heading.
