Amy Sherman-Palladino Would ‘Love to Get Back in the Ring’ with Lauren Graham
Apr 26, 2023
Gilmore Girls fans, rejoice! Series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino remains hopeful about professionally reuniting with Lauren Graham. Graham starred in Sherman-Palldino’s popular series as Lorelai Gilmore, a determined single mother living in the fictional town of Stars Hollow. Graham portrayed the beloved character during the series’ original run until 2007 and reprised the role for the 2016 continuation Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
Sherman-Palladino, also the creator of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, wanted to bring Graham on to the award-winning series, but unfortunately, that never panned out. In conversation with ET ahead of the premiere of the fifth and final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Sherman-Palladino opened up about wanting to work with Graham in the future. While Sherman-Palladino wouldn’t reveal what role she had Graham in mind for, she mentioned that she still has “hopes of doing something like this with Lauren.”

“I want to work with Lauren so badly. Now, all we do is have lunch together and as much as I enjoy having spicy Bloody Marys with her at noon — which is very enjoyable — I would really love to get back in the ring with her again.” She later added: “Lauren is extraordinarily busy. She was ice skating and writing books and she’s got a whole world going on… It just didn’t come to pass. But I still have Graham stars in my eyes.”
While Graham never made it to New York to visit Midge Maisel, plenty of other Gilmore Girls alumni have appeared in the series, including Milo Ventimiglia, Liza Weil, Emily Bergl, Scott Cohen, and Kelly Bishop, among others. Sean Gunn and Danny Strong, who portrayed Kirk and Doyle on Gilmore Girls, will appear as guest stars in the final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Most notably, Alex Borstein, who appeared on Gilmore Girls in two separate roles, stars in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel as Susie Myerson. Borstein has earned two Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Susie. Sherman-Palladino writes, directs, and executive produces the series alongside her husband, Daniel Palladino. The final season premieres on Apr. 14.

Fans Remain Hopeful for More Gilmore Girls
The CW
While Sherman-Palladino’s comments don’t necessarily point to a return of Gilmore Girls, fans of the series will always remain hopeful. Especially after Graham told NewBeauty last year that Lorelai is the character she’s played that she identifies with most, before adding:
“It’s always a fun prospect to think about and talk about. It used to be more of just talk, but having done it now, we know it’s possible. I think I feel such a responsibility and so much love for the story that I would just want to be sure it was the right time.”
Gilmore Girls aired from 2007 to 2007 and starred Graham, Alexis Bledel, Melissa McCarthy, Scott Patterson, Bishop, the late Edward Herrmann, Keiko Agena, Jared Padalecki, Matt Czuchry, and Ventimiglia. Gilmore Girls: A Day in the Life aired in 2016 and included four 90-minute chapters. The series ended with a shocker, which fans hope will be explored if Sherman-Palladino ever decides to make her way back to Stars Hollow.
