Andrew Garfield Recalls Spider-Man: No Way Home Cameo
As any superhero fan will know, Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield’s iconic Spider-Man crossover was one of the biggest movie moments of the past few years.
However, despite the huge deal it was at the time, Andrew revealed in a new interview that he had a few concerns when the reunion was first pitched.
Taking part in Esquire’s “Explain This” video series, the Oscar-nominated star recalled his initial reaction to being asked to reprise the role, revealing that he had serious doubts about whether Tobey would want to be involved.
Adorably, Andrew said he was incredibly grateful for the opportunity to film with Tobey and Tom, which he described as “the most joyful thing ever.”
The three Spidey actors went to great lengths to keep the cameos under wraps in the months before No Way Home was released. And as you’ll probably recall, no one did quite as much work as Andrew, who went viral for the number of times he was forced to awkwardly refute rumors about his appearance in the movie.
Now, while speaking to Esquire, Andrew revealed that his cover was nearly blown when they began shooting the film in Atlanta way back in January 2021.
Panicked, Andrew told the delivery guy he wasn’t allowed to see his face, which got complicated when he was asked to show his ID. To make matters worse, the driver subsequently posted about the “rude” experience on social media, alerting fans to Andrew’s presence in the city.
