Banger Featured, Reviews Film Threat

Nov 1, 2023

I get it. As an artist, your work has to be perfect because it represents you. That’s the simple premise behind Dimitri Max’s short film, Banger.
Filmmaker Max plays the protagonist, Roman. He is late turning in his latest music track to Stéphane. When Stéphane calls, he tells Roman his track sounds fine, but Roman says it’s not ready. Stéphane needs it now, and Roman embarks on an all-nighter for the perfect track.

“…Roman embarks on an all-nighter for the perfect track.”
Banging one out in a quick five minutes, Banger dives into the world of the perfectionist. Yes, the final piece is late, but hey…it’s perfect. The quest for perfection becomes even more maddening when Stéphane makes a simple yet not-so-simple ask at the end.
Speaking of a perfectionist, Dimitri Max does everything: writes, directs, edits, and plays both Roman and Stéphane. This highly efficient film wastes nary a second to make its point, building tension and ending on a quick and witty punchline. Perfect.
