Feb 23, 2024
Summary
The Batman – Part II fan trailer teases Keoghan’s Joker vs. Pattinson’s Batman showdown, hinting at a dark new threat for the Caped Crusader.
Production delays due to strikes have pushed back filming of The Batman – Part II, leaving fans eagerly awaiting updates on the sequel.
While speculation continues on Joker’s role in The Batman – Part II, Reeves may opt for a different villain to avoid similarities to The Dark Knight.
The war between Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne and Barry Keoghan in The Batman – Part II begins in a new DC fan trailer. As James Gunn’s DC Universe is being built out, Matt Reeves is focusing on fleshing out The Batman universe, following the big success in 2022 with Pattinson’s movie. While there have been little to no updates on The Batman – Part II, the sequel is still on its way, with Pattinson reprising the role as the Caped Crusader in the Elseworlds-based universe.
As The Batman – Part II cast was initially going to film in November 2023, production got pushed back in light of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. While the audience waits to get any news on The Batman – Part II, ModeMarvelous shared a new fan trailer for the sequel to serve as a proof-of-concept of where Reeves may go with the next installment.
In this scenario, The Batman – Part II focuses on Keoghan’s iteration of Joker, as he becomes the Dark Knight’s next threat. The Batman – Part II uses a lot of footage from various Batman fan movies, as Joker and Batman’s long-time rivalry comes to life.

Is Joker Actually Going To Be In The Batman – Part II?
While The Batman – Part II script seems to still be in the works, it begs the question if Joker will end up being the main antagonist in the sequel. The ending of The Batman definitely set up an organic way for The Batman – Part II to have Joker and Bruce go up against each other. Even the deleted scene from The Batman where Bruce goes to Joker was another clever opportunity to have them naturally begin their rivalry in The Batman – Part II.
However, The Batman – Part II may not even go with Joker as the primary villain, given what Reeves has said previously. While he has stated that he is interested in telling more about this version of Joker’s story, Reeves has said in previous interviews that he isn’t entirely certain if Keoghan will be in The Batman – Part II. Ironically, Keoghan has been incredibly cryptic as of late when he gets asked about Joker potentially being in The Batman – Part II, suggesting that perhaps he is actually in the movie but can’t announce it yet.
The next project to come out of Reeves’
The Batman
universe is
The Penguin
TV show, premiering on Max this year.
It’s possible Reeves doesn’t want to have Joker be the main threat in The Batman – Part II, as it would be a very similar direction to what The Dark Knight had in 2008. With the number of villains that exist in Batman’s lore, there are definitely other foes that Reeves may want to focus on, especially if they have never been used in a live-action movie previously. Hopefully, whenever The Batman – Part II gets ready to start principal photography, DC Studios, and Warner Bros. Discovery will announce whether or not Keoghan’s Joker will be part of the second installment.
