Ben Affleck’s ‘The Accountant 2’ Is the Best Movie To Watch This Weekend
Apr 26, 2025
The weekend of April 23, 2025, is an action fan’s delight, whether they want to go to the theater or relax at home with the latest streaming titles. Notably, Ben Affleck returns to theaters with The Accountant 2, the follow-up to the hit 2016 action thriller. The first movie, which landed lukewarm reviews, won over a dedicated audience and an impressive box office showing; whether it will do the same again is yet to be seen. If you want a more surefire bet, Tom Hardy leads Netflix’s Havoc, which has steadily been building hype and aiming to dominate the streaming charts.
The weekend also brings two new releases that may be flying under the radar but are worth checking out. Notably, The Legend of Ochi is landing in theaters, offering a unique story that is a visual throwback to lush fantasy movies of the ’80s. Those looking for some chills will also want to head over to Shudder, as a new folk horror classic emerges with Fréwaka. Here is everything you need to watch for the weekend of April 25.

The Accountant 2 will see plenty of returning cast members — including Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, Jon Bernthal as his brother Brax Wolff, Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Agent Marybeth Medina, and J.K. Simmons as Ray King — alongside the return of director Gavin O’Connor and screenwriter Bill Dubuque. The sequel looks to continue to deliver a unique action experience. With autistic forensic accountant Christian Wolff at the center of the movie, fans can expect a similar balance of action and character development, focusing more on the family relationship between Christian and Brax than in the previous entry.

Ben Affleck Jokes About Unexpected ‘Accountant 2’ Line-Dancing Scene: “Tom Cruise Has Nothing on Me”
The star of ‘The Accountant 2’ took a lot of time to prepare for a hilarious and unexpected dance scene.
The first film grossed $155.2 million worldwide against a $44 million budget, marking a moderate enough success to warrant the sequel. While the first movie got a lukewarm reception from critics, the sequel is currently 79% fresh, which may point to a stronger box office. The Accountant 2 may still face tense competition with Sinners being a record-breaking box office smash, but for action fans, the newest Ben Affleck-led action thriller should be a must-watch at the cinema.
Other Notable Movies Coming To Streaming and Theaters
For streaming, there is no better choice this weekend than the Tom Hardy-led Netflix Original, Havoc. Hardy joins forces with director Gareth Evans of The Raid fame, which translates to guaranteed fast-paced, high-octane fights. The movie follows Detective Walker Mackey (Tom Hardy), tasked with saving a politician’s estranged son caught up in a botched drug deal. Audiences have waited a long time for this one, with early reactions being overwhelmingly positive. Havoc has the potential not just to be the best action movie this weekend, but of all of 2025.
The potential sleeper hit of this weekend, hype has been building for the release of the Irish folk horror movie Fréwaka, which lands on Shudder this weekend. MovieWeb’s Will Sayre calls the horror movie a “grim folk horror with an ending that will haunt you for days.” You can read more about it in his 4/5-rated review here. The Legend of Ochi may struggle to make its mark in the theaters, but don’t count out this charming fantasy feature altogether.
In his review for MovieWeb, Julian Roman highlights the potential for the film to resonate with an audience, saying, “(the) surprisingly humorous script are only surpassed by top-notch puppetry, animatronics, and CGI that breathe life into the fascinating Ochi.” Consider heading to the theaters and supporting the unique original film, The Legend of Ochi.
