Bill Skarsgård Thinks He Has “A Really F***Ing Cool Joker” Inside Him

Jan 8, 2025

It star Bill Skarsgard
may not be done clowning around, as the Pennywise actor has declared that he has “a really f***ing cool Joker” inside him should be chosen to play the iconic DC supervillain in James Gunn’s DCU Batman reboot The Brave and the Bold
. Speaking with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Skarsgård shared his passion for Batman, a comic character he’s loved since childhood (who hasn’t?), and also revealed what he knows about It director Andy Muschietti’s upcoming DCU movie. Which, sadly, is not a lot.

“Batman was mine. I was a Batman kid. Batman was my superhero growing up. Yeah. I don’t know exactly where he is with it, but yeah, so that was cool [he was announced as the director].”

Much like David Corenswet as Superman and Jason Momoa as Lobo, Bill Skarsgård has long been a fan-favorite choice for the role of the Joker. And, sometimes, the most obvious choice is the right one. Details of The Brave and the Bold currently remain scarce, including who will play Bruce Wayne/Batman. And Skarsgård has an interesting response when asked if he might be interested in reuniting with Muschietti, but not as The Clown Prince of Crime, but The Dark Knight instead…
Bill Skarsgård Thinks He Could Play Both Batman & Joker in the Same Movie

Asked about whether he would be interested in playing Batman or Joker, Bill Skarsgård is not counting anything out. And thinks he could even play both roles in the same movie and thus create something completely unique to the Batman mythos.

“Um… maybe both? I can be sort of a schizophrenic. In this one, Batman is Joker, and Joker’s Batman. You know, when the actors do that, when they play twins… you know, sounds so exhausting. Like, shooting, and changing outfits, and then acting opposite yourself.”

While this is highly unlikely to ever happen (though would certainly be something to behold), Skarsgård is confident that he could play a “really f***ing cool” version of the Joker.

“I don’t know, man. I think I have a really f***ing cool Joker in me, probably, somewhere. I think that’d be pretty sick.”

DCU’s First Batman Movie Already Seems to be Getting a Delay

‘The Brave and the Bold’ will not be hitting cinemas anytime soon.

The future of the Joker on the big screen is largely unknown, with Joaquin Phoenix bringing his controversial take to an end with this year’s panned sequel Joker: Folie à Deux. Barry Keoghan, meanwhile, is expected to return as his deformed version of the Joker in The Batman Part 2, but whether we will ever see the sequel on the big screen is now a matter of contention after it was recently delayed again to October 1, 2027.
Skarsgård is currently receiving rave reviews for his performance as another iconic character, that of Count Orlok in director Robert Eggers’ remake of the gothic horror classic Nosferatu. While the actor has since hinted at the end of his horror career as he never wants to play “something this evil again,” clearly, he would make an exception for The Clown Prince of Crime.
