Billy Crystal Responds to Pacific Palisades Fire

Jan 9, 2025

Billy Crystal and his wife Janice have confirmed that the Pacific Palisades fire has destroyed their home of nearly five decades.

“Words cannot describe the enormity of the devastation we are witnessing and experiencing. We ache for our friends and neighbors who have also lost their homes and businesses in this tragedy,” the couple said in a joint statement. “Janice and I lived in our home since 1979. We raised our children and grandchildren here. Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can’t be taken away. We are heartbroken of course but with the love of our children and friends we will get through this. We pray for the safety of the fire fighters and first responders. The Pacific Palisades is a resilient community of amazing people and we know in time it will rise again. It is our home.”

Crystal is one of the Palisades most beloved residents, and the iconic actor served as the city’s honorary mayor for a recent stretch. Eugene Levy, who is the current honorary mayor of the Pacific Palisades, is among those who have recently been taking to social media to share harrowing stories amid quick evacuations. James Woods, Mandy Moore and Diane Warren have all lost homes to the flames. Iconic sites including several famed Malibu eateries, the Palisades Charter High School and Will Rogers’ historic ranch house and the historic Topanga Ranch Motel, once owned by William Randolph Hearst, have all been destroyed.

As of 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Palisades fire had consumed 15,832 acres and destroyed close to 1,000 homes. Hard hit areas include the well-trafficked downtown area and many local businesses along Sunset Boulevard.
