‘Born Again’ Brings Back Wilson Bethel From Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ To Play Bullseye In New Marvel Series
Jan 24, 2024
So, reports are that “Daredevil: Born Again” has gone back into production. This happens after what is being reported as a tumultuous time for the folks at Marvel, particularly involving this highly anticipated series. There are new directors, a new showrunner, and some surprising cast additions. All of which are pointing to one thing—Marvel Studios is hoping to capture the magic of Netflix’s “Daredevil.” And the latest bit of casting news for ‘Born Again’ seems to back this theory up.

According to Deadline, Wilson Bethel has joined the cast of “Daredevil: Born Again.” The report claims he will show up in at least three episodes of the series, reprising his role of Benjamin Poindexter aka Bullseye, from the last season of Netflix’s “Daredevil.” Obviously, the name Wilson Bethel isn’t a huge addition to the cast of a Marvel Studios project. The studio is known for luring in some of the biggest names in Hollywood. And that’s not a slight against Bethel, as he is really solid, especially in “Daredevil.” However, what it does is ramp up the excitement for folks who really enjoyed Netflix’s “Daredevil” (like this writer).
For those unaware, Bethel is returning as Bullseye, who is the Joker to Daredevil’s Batman. He’s a seemingly unstoppable killing machine, who is able to use any object as a weapon thanks to his pinpoint accuracy. Basically, imagine Hawkeye if he murdered people with pencils and other objects.

Again, this further backs up all the reports that claim ‘Born Again’ is mining the well of Netflix’s “Daredevil” during its creative overhaul. We’ve already seen reports of folks like Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson returning. And we’ve heard from Vincent D’Onofrio, who outright said that Marvel Studios is embracing the previous continuity for ‘Born Again.’ So, with Bethel’s inclusion, it’s all but cemented that this is exactly what is happening.
And you know what? Good. The “Daredevil” series from Netflix really is the best of the best from what the streaming service did with Marvel characters. Sure, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones have their fans. Same goes for The Punisher. But Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil is really the crown jewel. And when it was originally announced that Cox and D’Onofrio were returning as their characters in the MCU, but in a new continuity, fans were confused and a bit upset. Why not take the best of what Netflix did and insert it in the MCU.
Not to mention, the success of “Echo” has reinforced that theory. It’s clear that Marvel fans are excited to see more series that are aimed at adults and aren’t beholden to crazy continuity featuring multiverses and time travel. People want adult storytelling featuring street-level characters punches the hell out of each other. And all of this can exist at the same time. That’s the beauty of the Marvel Universe in comics. It doesn’t all have to look/feel the same. Rant over.
So, it’ll be interesting to see if ‘Born Again’ really is just another season of the “Daredevil” TV show from Netflix or if they’re going to pick and choose the continuity to keep. Regardless, perhaps this creative overhaul was the right decision, and it’s exciting to see where this goes.
