Born Again Makes Some Changes, Gets Punisher Showrunner & Loki Directors
Nov 9, 2023
Summary
Daredevil: Born Again is getting a complete creative team overhaul after Kevin Feige was unsatisfied with the direction and outcome of the series so far. The new showrunner, Dario Scardapane, has experience working on Marvel and Netflix series like The Punisher, while directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have recently joined the MCU. Marvel Studios is implementing a new strategy to avoid past production mistakes, which includes dedicating showrunners solely to TV productions and aiming for more multi-season series like the successful Loki.
With filming still on pause, Daredevil: Born Again is undergoing a restructuring process and has already found a new showrunner and directors for the series centered on Charlie Cox’s version of the Man Without Fear. Earlier this month, it was revealed that Kevin Feige had decided to make some major changes to the upcoming series Daredevil: Born Again, as after seeing the result of what they were able to shoot before the start of the actors’ strike and the approach the project was taking, the head of Marvel Studios was not buying it. According to reports, Feige has decided to change the entire team behind the show, and it seems that they are already finding replacements.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Dario Scardapane will take over the series as showrunner, while Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead will direct the episodes. Scardapane already has some experience with similar characters, having worked on one of the Marvel and Netflix series, The Punisher. His filmography also includes projects such as the Jack Ryan series starring John Krasinski, The Bridge, and State of Affairs.
Benson and Moorhead, for their part, have mainly worked on independent productions such as The Endless, Synchronic, or Spring, but recently joined the MCU to direct some episodes of the second season of Loki.
For now, the only changes the series will face have to do with the creative team, and no changes to the cast or new additions have been announced. Daredevil: Born Again will feature the return of both Cox as the titular hero and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, after both appeared in other MCU projects. The Punisher star Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, although it’s likely this will be a slightly different version from the Netflix universe since the new Disney+ series is meant to work as a semi-reboot for all the characters.

Marvel Studios Will Implement a New Way to Develop Their TV Shows
Marvel Studios
Daredevil: Born Again is the first series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that will be developed as part of a new strategy by the studio to correct the mistakes they made with past productions. While most of the original MCU shows released on Disney+ were considerably successful, some like Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk or Secret Invasion did not perform as expected. That, added to the criticism received for the low quality of the scripts and visual effects, Feige decided to take measures to prevent future failures.
Among the most important changes are the use of the role of a showrunner for all television productions, and assigning producers dedicated entirely to the series, who won’t have to divide their tasks between film and streaming.
Additionally, they will try to develop more multi-season series instead of limited series, since the only show in the franchise that was renewed for a second installment, Loki, proved to be the most successful one. This latest change could represent very good news for Daredevil fans, because it means that the series could last much longer than imagined.
