Born Again’ Showrunners Detail How the Media Ties into Season 2
Mar 23, 2026
Marvel is fast approaching the release of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, marking its second live-action Disney+ show of 2026. Bringing back Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, this season picks up where Season 1 left off, with Fisk enacting martial law and sending his Anti-Vigilante Task Force out in full force to hunt down heroes like Daredevil. While Dardedevil builds an army to fight Fisk, including Krysten Ritter in her return to the MCU as Jessica Jones, he faces the toughest fight of his life. Part of that struggle is the result of Fisk using every bit of power he has as New York City’s mayor to make life as difficult as possible for Matt and any other vigilantes in the city. Considering he’s also proven he’s no less violent these days, he remains the scariest threat for Matt as he tries to take the city back and restore order. On top of that, he has a new weapon at his disposal — one that started to be more prominent in the show’s first season. We’re talking, of course, about the media.

Speaking exclusively with MovieWeb, Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane and executive producer Sana Amanat discussed the show’s use of the media in its story. Mentioning BB Urich’s BB Report from Season 1, Scardapane explained how the idea of an “autocrat [taking] over the media was super interesting” when Fisk came into power as the mayor. Outlining the propaganda of it all, he explained how it leads to “a really, really intense drama” for everybody involved:
Scarapane: “This is one of those things that, you can’t even call it writing. It’s because it’s so collective. We had the ‘BB Report’ in Season 1 as a way of getting the feeling of what’s going on on the street. We needed that in order to provide connective tissue, to build the season we did in Season 1 and in Season 2, when Fisk takes over, the idea that an autocrat takes over the media was super interesting. So, we build these propaganda bits, then there’s somebody at the center of both, and we’re like, ‘OK, so what’s the anonymous ‘F you’ to the system, kind of new media meme-ish response? And then we did all that, and then that actually leads to a really, really intense drama for those characters. So, it was one of those things that started as a band-aid and turned into a novel.”
Amanat added that the show will highlight “how modern media is used to manipulate” the way people see the world, using propaganda as “a tool to manipulate the truth.” This came before Scardapane commented on BB Urich being “the heir to Ben Urich,” who was killed off in Daredevil Season 1 on Netflix. From here, Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page, who worked with Ben, will step in for BB in terms of working the media to tell the truth:
Amanat: “And also how modern media is used to manipulate, to share information, both as propaganda but also as a tool to manipulate truth, but also truth to power. I think that is a constant back-and-forth, and it’s always hard to decipher. We had a little bit of fun with it. I think we had a lot of fun with the city without fear stuff, and found some really unexpected jewels in it.
Scardapane: “And never forget that BB is the heir to Ben Urich. Karen is kind of passing the baton; we had a lot of fun with all of that.
With Born Again Season 2 earning rave reviews from critics ahead of its release, viewers are eager to revisit the darker side of the MCU. Given the media’s role in enabling Mayor Wilson Fisk, the plot is unquestionably going to get murky and complicated, as one of the most powerful villains in MCU history makes his presence felt politically across New York City. The media has often been unkind to the MCU’s finest heroes, as good guys like Spider-Man, the Winter Soldier, and even Captain America have been painted as no more than violent vigilantes or flat-out criminals. What Fisk has in store for heroes like Daredevil and Jessica Jones will be far from mild, as he makes sure hell breaks loose on anybody who stands against him.
