Coven Of Chaos’ Adds Directors Jac Schaeffer, Rachel Goldberg & Gandja Monteiro

Jan 15, 2023

Like what Jac Schaeffer did as the creator, head writer, and executive producer of Marvel’s “WandaVision,” arguably the best Marvel Disney+ show to date? Well, you might be happy about the recent development of “Agatha: Coven of Chaos.”

Essentially a sequel or follow-up to “WandaVision,” ‘Coven of Chaos’ this time focuses on Kathryn Hahn reprising her role as Agatha Harkness, the powerful witch, and villain of that series. Created by Schaeffer again, she’s also the header writer and an exec producer again this time, and she’s also stepping up into the director’s chair too.
THR’s Heatvision newsletter has revealed that Schaeffer has stepped up to direct multiple episodes of the upcoming series. Additionally, beginning production next week, two more directors have come on board the series. One of them is Gandja Monteiro, packing her own heat and buzz for directing one of the most popular series of 2022 in Netflix’s “Wednesday.” The other is Rachel Goldberg, known for directing episodes of Peacock’s “A Friend of the Family” and Netflix’s “Resident Evil” series among her recent credits.
On top of starring Kathryn Hahn, “Agatha: Coven of Chaos” features Aubrey Plaza, breakout “Heartstopper” star Joe Locke, stage star Patti LuPone, SNL alumnus Sasheer Zamata, former “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” actress Emma Caulfield and “That ’70s Show” star Debra Jo Rupp, reprising her role from “WandaVision.”
Heatvision says there will be more “WandaVision” supporting players joining the cast, but they have not been named yet. “Wandavision” ended with Agatha being “trapped” in her neighborly persona and with no memory of what transpired or her knowledge of being a witch. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but actors like Plaza are rumored to play witches in Agatha’s coven, and certainly, that spell of amnesia will be broken. Will it be Marvel’s first villain show? Or will Agatha turn good? Time will tell. Schaeffer is also writing and creating “Vision Quest,” another sequel to “Wandavision” that centers on the robotic White Vision who went missing at the end of the series.
