Crawlspace Featured, Reviews Film Threat

Jan 8, 2024

In Brady Jacquin’s short, Crawlspace, our protagonist, Adam (J.D. Starnes), has just been dumped by his wife, Julia (Sierra Cevasco), when she discovers that Adam is a porn addict. Adam is left at a desperate point in his life, living alone in his home only to dwell on the mistakes he’s made and his life now spent in isolation.
After a few attempts to reconnect with Julia, Adam spots a strange figure outside his window. Curious, he follows the creature under the crawlspace of his home to find the disgusting shelter it calls home.

“…follows the creature under the crawlspace of his home to find the disgusting shelter…”
In Crawlspace, writer/director Jacquin shows that horror is not always about the jump scares and creatures in the dark recesses of life. Horror can often be used to comment on the dark side of life. The monster living under Adam’s home is connected to him…feeding off his guilt and isolation.
Jacquin effectively uses elements of horror to drop us right in the protagonist’s shoes as we experience the guilt and isolation of a man who can not forgive himself. Jacquin keeps the tone smooth and steady while keeping the dialogue to a minimum. The ending is both creepy as it is thought-provoking, playing on who we become at the darkest moments of our lives.
