Marvel Studios opened a bit of a can of worms when it announced the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, in the MCU. This is after the studio basically disavowed the events of the Netflix “Daredevil”/“Defenders” continuity when the character was brought back under the Marvel Studios umbrella. Since then, there has been even more confusion with the inclusion of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, as well as reports of Jon Bernthal returning as the Punisher. All that to say, Marvel Studios is having its cake and eating it too by cherry picking elements of the Netflix “Daredevil” series for its own upcoming show, “Daredevil: Born Again.” But what does that mean for actors like Deborah Ann Woll, who is seemingly not picked to return? Well, she gets asked time after time about her status in the MCU.

In a new interview with ScreenRant, Deborah Ann Woll was, once again, asked if she would be returning as Karen Page in the new iteration of “Daredevil.” And, once again, the actress seemingly confirms she won’t be included, despite her sincere desire to continue to play the beloved Marvel character. 
“Look, playing Karen Page was one of the great roles of my career so far. I have such enormous love and respect for her, for myself, for the story that we created together,” said Woll. “I think any iteration of Karen that comes back, if she comes back, if it’s me, if it’s not me, if it’s in comic books, if it’s in 50 years, whatever it is, I just hope that it continues to honor her. That you’re never just the sidekick.”

She added, “You might not see the Karen Page story, but she’s having a whole TV show on her own that no one filmed. Make sure that, for our characters, who are not superheroes or are not the lead fighter in that way, that we just continue to honor that they have full lives. That’s what I really appreciated about my time playing Karen Page, and I would hope that if I got to do it again or if it continues, that people would have the same care for her. I’m so proud. I really am. I loved working on that so much, and she’s such a cool, cool person. I miss her.”
For those who didn’t watch Netflix’s “Daredevil” and/or isn’t a Marvel Comics buff, Karen Page is the big love interest for Matt Murdock. She doesn’t have any super powers and has a bit of a checkered past, but there are many who consider Karen to be the one true love of Matt. And for fans of the Netflix iteration, Woll was beloved for her portrayal of the character. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that Woll is going to return, and it’s unclear if Karen Page is even part of ‘Born Again.’ There hasn’t been any casting news about a different actor taking on the role, so it’s very possible that Karen just isn’t included. If that’s the case, and if there’s more “Daredevil” seasons in the pipeline, there’s still the possibility that Woll could return. 
Until then, sadly for Woll, she’s going to continue to get these questions over and over again.
