Deadpool 3 Reportedly Delayed, No Way For Marvel To Hit Release Date Due To Strikes

Oct 24, 2023

Summary

Deadpool 3, featuring the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, has reportedly been delayed due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. The release date is currently uncertain. A delay of Deadpool 3 may impact other upcoming MCU movies, such as Captain America: Brave New World, potentially causing release date reshuffling. The resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strike will determine when Deadpool 3 and other MCU productions can move forward, and Hollywood overall is hoping for a timely conclusion.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is reportedly delaying Deadpool 3 as Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming movie is being taken off the 2024 release schedule in light of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Wade Wilson is getting closer to finally joining the MCU now that Marvel Studios has the X-Men movie rights back. Deadpool 3 will not only mark Wade’s integration into the MCU but also feature the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, although how he is back remains to be seen.

With the SAG-AFTRA strike still taking place, Deadline reports that Deadpool 3 has now lost its May 3, 2024 release date. As of right now, there is no new date set yet for Deadpool 3 since it will depend on when the SAG-AFTRA strike comes to an end. Screen Rant has reached out for comment, but at the time of this story’s publication, Marvel Studios and Disney have yet to release a statement.

Disney Has Not Officially Changed Deadpool 3’s Release Date

Disney has not officially announced an update to the Marvel Studios release slate or any changes specifically regarding Deadpool 3’s date as it has yet to be decided given the unknown timeline of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Disney does not comment on rumors and speculation.

How The Deadpool 3 Delay May Affect Other MCU Releases

Since Deadpool 3 still has to finish principal photography, which was suspended back in July, this will likely become a domino effect for other MCU movies that are coming up. Deadline revealed that according to their sources, the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World (currently slated for July 26, 2024) will potentially move back to its May 3, 2024 release date. According to the trade, Captain America: Brave New World is “in better shape than Deadpool 3,” given that it has wrapped filming.

However, Deadline’s sources did stress that it is “a long shot,” which leaves Captain America: Brave New World up in the air as to whether or not it comes out in July or May 2024. If the SAG-AFTRA strike continues through the end of 2023, it wouldn’t be shocking if Deadpool 3 didn’t even come out in 2024 and instead landed in early 2025. It all depends on whether negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP resume any time soon as the latter walked away from the discussions in October.

Even though the Writers Guild of America strike has ended, Hollywood is still without its actors. Time will tell if things get even more chaotic for Marvel Studios; from Daredevil: Born Again getting reworked to a potential domino effect of delays, the studio has a lot on its plate. Hopefully, if the SAG-AFTRA strike is concluded in the coming weeks, things will start going in the right direction for Deadpool 3 and other MCU productions.
