Deadpool & Wolverine Editors Are Optimistic About Deadpool 4

Oct 21, 2024

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are remaining tight-lipped about their MCU futures following Deadpool & Wolverine. The mega-blockbuster was a heartfelt send-off to Fox’s X-Men universe, featuring some immensely popular legacy characters from the superhero genre, and closing with an emotional montage of BTS footage from various X-Men films. While Reynolds and Jackman are taking their time planning their MCU futures, Shane Reid and Dean Zimmerman, the editors of Deadpool & Wolverine, are optimistic that the on-screen pair will return for a fourth movie.

During an interview with MovieWeb to celebrate Deadpool & Wolverine’s release on digital and on demand, as well as the upcoming 4K and Blu-ray release on October 22, Dean Zimmerman and Shane Reid expressed their unfiltered excitement about making a fourth Deadpool movie. While most actors, directors, and creatives are hesitant to attach their names to prospective projects too early, Zimmerman and Reid held nothing back. The moment the question about a fourth film was posed, Dean Zimmerman quickly riposted with, “Uhh, yeah! Sign me up!” Zimmerman is a long-time collaborator with director Shawn Levy, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman, having edited past seasons of Stranger Things, The Adam Project, Free Guy, and Real Steel. He continued:

“If they’re willing to do that, I’m 100% in to jump on that ride. This was one of the best experiences on a production that I’ve ever had.
I’ll do 50 of these!

Reid’s response was equally optimistic and excitable. Reid is a newcomer to the world of comic book movies, having been recommended for Deadpool & Wolverine while working on a Taylor Swift music video — which was directed by Blake Lively. “Yeah, the idea of that family getting back together to jump into the fire is very exciting,” Reid said. Naturally, the pair couldn’t speak for Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. But, having worked so closely with the pair on Deadpool & Wolverine, Reid hinted that there could be more to come after the movie settles into its place in the MCU. He explained:

“It’s up to them, and what kind of ideas they can concoct as they let this one settle into what it will for the rest of eternity. The fact that this film exists forever and where they take that story is insane. It’s such a giant film and giant concept, I’m very fascinated.”

Could Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds Return for Another Deadpool & Wolverine?

Although Deadpool joked that Hugh Jackman will be playing Wolverine until he’s 90 (something which fans won’t complain about), Jackman himself is unsure about his future in the MCU. The ending of Deadpool & Wolverine left both characters available to appear in future movies now that they’re part of the “Sacred Timeline.” However, neither Jackman nor Reynolds have given definitive answers about re-uniting for a second time.

Neither of the characters have been confirmed to appear in any future Marvel movies, be they stand alone projects or larger-scale films like Avengers: Secret Wars. Fans will no doubt be desperate to see the pair interact with the wider MCU at least once now that Deadpool & Wolverine has connected them to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The third film will be the first in the franchise to be developed under the Marvel Studios banner following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox.Release Date July 26, 2024 Cast Ryan Reynolds , Hugh Jackman , Emma Corrin , Morena Baccarin , Rob Delaney , Leslie Uggams , Karan Soni , Matthew Macfadyen , Brianna Hildebrand , Shioli Kutsuna , Stefan Kapicic , Lewis Tan , Randal Reeder , Jennifer Garner , Aaron Stanford , Billy Clements , Ollie Palmer , Chris Hemsworth , Rob McElhenney Expand
