‘Den of Thieves’ is Now Available to Stream on Netflix

Apr 4, 2025

Gerard Butler

fans have just received an unexpected treat on Netflix as the 2018 action thriller Den of Thieves

has been unexpectedly added to Netflix’s library alongside its sequel. Butler’s appearances as “Big Nick” O’Brien may not have delivered $1 billion theatrical hits, but the success of the franchise has been clear to see, and has led to a third Den of Thieves movie heading into production.
When it was released in 2018, Den of Thieves was a moderate box office success, with a divisive set of critical reviews. However, it delivered for a majority of viewers, and years after its cinema release, the film became a hit several times on various streaming platforms. Fans called for a sequel, and it seemed that one would be made…but between pandemic delays and a number of other reasons it was not until this January that fans finally got to see Big Nick return in Den of Thieves 2: Pantera.

If You Thought the ‘Den of Thieves 2’ Heist Was Too Unrealistic, You’re Wrong

The diamond heist in ‘Den of Thieves 2: Pantera’ has a real-life counterpart!

For those who have allowed the Den of Thieves franchise to pass them by, Butler stars as “Big Nick” O’Brien, a rough and relentless detective in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Major Crimes unit. With typical anti-hero tendencies and a willingness to blur the lines of justice to take down suspects, the character instantly lands in a sweet spot that fans of action thrillers seem to gravitate towards. What’s more, Den of Thieves has a strong supporting cast, which includes Pablo Schreiber as the cunning ringleader of a professional heist crew and O’Shea Jackson Jr. as a driver caught between both sides. Now Netflix subscribers can follow the action of both movies in a one-stop double bill on Netflix.
‘Den of Thieves 3’ Will Continue to Deliver More of the Same Action

Lionsgate

Den of Thieves director Christian Gudegast teased fans with an idea of what they could expect from the next movie even before it was officially green lit. During the promotion of Den of Thieves 2, he told MovieWeb:

“[I knew] right from the beginning… [Butler’s] a man’s man, he’s a big dude, and we just kind of got along right from the beginning. He was sort of attracted to the kind of stuff I was writing, and by the time we did Den of Thieves, we’d done a couple of things. Then we’d developed a few things together that didn’t get made, a couple of them did, and then [producer] Tucker Tooley had worked with him. We all just work together very well, and we’re looking forward to continuing the collaborations.”

Although there will still be a little wait for the third movie to arrive, it is not going to be anything like the seven-year gap between the first two movies. With everyone seemingly back on board, there is nothing to suggest that the Den of Thieves franchise is about to run out of steam, and we can expect another heist on the box office when Den of Thieves 3 arrives in cinemas in the next couple of years.
