Elizabeth Olsen Is Proud to Have Been The MCU’s Scarlet Witch, but Doesn’t Miss Playing Her

Aug 27, 2023

There are many fans of Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch that still believe the MCU is not does with the character, even in the face of comments from the actress herself that she is current done playing the role as far as she knows. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness saw Wanda Maximoff returning to the same kind of villainous role that she played in her debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron, only this time in the much more powerful form of Scarlet Witch following the events of WandaVision. However, by the end of the movie, good conquered evil and it seemed that the MCU’s variant of the character met her demise at her own hands as she appeared to perish while destroying the last traces of the Darkhold’s spells.

When it comes to reflecting on the role now, Olsen seemingly is happy to be taking a break from playing the MCU’s all-powerful witch and says she doesn’t actually miss playing the character she developed over almost a decade. While appearing on Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Olsen was asked how much she missed Wanda, and replied:

“No, I don’t. I think it’s been almost 10 years of playing her. And I’ve loved it. And I think the reason why l am not calling Kevin Feige everyday with ideas is because I’m really proud of what we were able to do. I think ‘WandaVision’ was a really surprising opportunity. If someone were to tell me that I’m fired from Marvel movies, I will feel proud of what we made. And I really am just trying to figure out how to load up other films and characters, so it becomes less about the Marvel of it all.”

Elizabeth Olsen and Scarlet Witch Will Return to the MCU Despite Any Denials.

In the world of Marvel Comics, characters come and go and some even die and are reimagined as completely different iterations of themselves. For this reason, there are many stories to be told about any of the hundreds of characters in Marvel’s canon, and Scarlet Witch is no exception. While Elizabeth Olsen has been mostly resolute in saying she knows nothing about a possible return to the role, with her ties to the X-Men in the comics, her speculative off-screen death and stories such as Agatha: Coven of Chaos coming, it is almost guaranteed that we have not seen the last of the ever-popular character.

Kevin Feige has already alluded to a possible future for Wanda in previous interviews, more than hinting that there is still plenty of scope for Olsen to return again somewhere down the line. He said:

“She’s incredibly humble and incredibly down-to-earth and yet when those cameras roll, it’s a force of nature. There really is so much more to explore. We still haven’t touched on many of [Wanda’s] core storylines from the comics. I’d work with Lizzie for another 100 years if we could. Anything’s possible in the multiverse. We’ll have to see.”
